How about opening up the preview servers to the whole community again? You need to hear from ALL of us.
Maybe if the community at large could provide feedback that was coherent and actionable, they'd consider it? Given what normally shows up in posts, something tells me that's not going to happen any time soon.
I agree with this but you also need a trusted set of testers as when you open up to the community you often get people that do everything but test what you want. Run 2 servers 1 for trusted testers and 1 for the community, this will also give you a better look at all the combos that people will come up with to see unintended consequences of tech.
May 2nd marked the seven year anniversary of Battle Pirates - a game I'm incredibly proud of. Over the years we've seen exciting new factions, incredible player tributes, and tons of emergent gameplay. But if there's one thing I've learned in my tenure, it's this:
Complacency is death.
Unfortunately, Battle Pirates has become a bog of complacency. A lack of diligence has allowed balance-breaking bugs to escape and go unnoticed for months. A lack of community engagement has caused us to lose touch with the speed that players can realistically progress. A lack of planning has forced the team to wildly over-tune stats, targets, and events in order to shoehorn value into new content.
All because of complacency. Well, complacency isn’t going to cut it and it’s time for us to right this ship. So what are we doing to fix this?
First, I’ve put a new leadership team in place. Our issues don’t stem from the talented individuals working long, difficult hours to execute on the nuts-and-bolts of the game, it’s about how we’re deploying those resources. Heading up that leadership team is our new GM, Michael Rubinelli. A State of the Game post will go up in the next few weeks in which he will discuss the long-term look for Battle Pirates. Additionally, our new Lead Designer WrongThinker will be putting up a post on Wednesday introducing himself, as well as the second part of our correction strategy, which I will now spoil.
Battle Pirates has adopted a philosophy that dictates everything we do. It’s simple: “Players First.” Content and features will continue to ship, because that’s how the game is supported, but with every new feature, we will always ask: how does this enhance the player experience? How does this make a player’s life better? Easier? More fun? If the only answer to why we’re putting something in the game is money - I don’t want it in the game.
Finally, we’re tripling down on our community engagement efforts. Expect to see more developer presence, more AMAs, more live streams, more unadulterated proof that the Battle Pirates team is exactly as invested in the continued success and longevity of this game as you are.
The fact that we’re in this position is no one’s fault but our own. The time of complacency is over. You’ve shown us that you’re here for the long haul, and it’s time for us to show you that we’re here for it too.
Long live Battle Pirates!

okay mr harbin,,you said everything i figured you were gonna say so no surprises in your words for me
all i can suggest to you is to make the game less complicated make the game less ship specific for pretty much all targets
somehow try to get your player numbers back up to something you can call growth
somehow please do something to make me feel less ashamed that i'm still hanging in there with faint hope that someday,,maybe someday this game will be truly as great as it was when i started

This thread has been intentionally open for comments.
You say: "Our issues don’t stem from the talented individuals working long, difficult hours to execute on the nuts-and-bolts of the game, it’s about how we’re deploying those resources."
And then you replace the Lead Game designers. AGAIN.
I think you need to look further up the ladder... Mirror, mirror on the wall... Who is actually responsible for it all?
I've been playing since the 1st year. I loved this game. after 4 years everyone was hacking. I got caught up in it. Got banned like many others. I was wrong, trying to keep up with others. Took my punishment. Started over, was hard but i messed up. My observation is 27k players online now. Back in the day we had 90 K in players online. the games main problems, i have 25 ships never built. Like many players. Whoever sets up fm makes to many changes, The raids are stupid hard. I'm a level 99 and took 6 hours damage on 60's. Let one of your people play my game. Let them see how terrible this game has become. We pay alliance players gold to help us get a few prizes. 500 million points for them. 60 million for us. I see total imbalance. What you call complacency!! As a businessman for 48 years i could never keep my business losing that many clients.
Show me the money . . . or so the saying goes. If you want to bring back the fun (and you will probably make more money), reduce everything by 75% and I mean everything. Ship build times, turret upgrades, fleet repairs, base repairs, researches . . . every single thing. The time when BP was the most fun and I suspect kixeye made the most money from the game was when $10 could buy you a whole evening of fun . . . fast forward to today, that same $10 buys you 10-30 minutes fun maximum. As you say, the solution is in your hands - JUST DO IT!
It very simple "STOP" with BS. and do what you say!!! Make this game the best, if there are issue or going to be issue just "MAN UP" and say it!! Don't need to have chores, If it's not broken, then why fix it.. Listen, listen.. And PLEASE stop with the BS!!!!!
IRT your OP I would like to say that for all the complaining the PvE aspect of the game is FINE but frustrating due to the fast pace and always being behind in building the required fleets. Example: I need to refit my Inferno Dragons (again) and I need to build Proto Tides and Proto Cents. I also need to build my Manicore flag which will take a couple weeks for that one hull. But PvE is fine regardless.
Your BIG problem is PvP. I can't afford to do PvP and only pirates willing to coin map repairs on their baser fleets can hit high level bases. That's how they have been able to flatten me. After two preps of guard ships and two on map repairs they can just walk in, however, they have spent some serious coin doing it. When hitting bases was more balanced this didn't happen. I could hit low level bases but I feel that drives people out; you sure don't need that. If you ever start a thread on suggestions on how to bring PvP back to an enjoyable experience for everyone I have some ideas that I will share with you. But for me, right now, PvP is dead.
The best advice I can give you sir Will is go back to basic, when the game was actually more fun,Less events, lower repair cost, more social when we play with Friends, stop nickle and dime us to death I don't mind spending but prices are way over rates for pixel products Hire more customer service and people that actually care for who pays there wages.Game can be great but only if you would stop and listen ti the folks that play it,maybe even play yourself, after all how you going to know whats going on if you not engaged in the game iself
Can you hire someone that can anticipate unexpected consequences? I'll volunteer and I'm cheap. As long as I don't have to move to SF; I already did my time in the Tenderloin and I'm not going back.
EDIT: And me being able to post here just goes to show how much you need me on the team. lol.
**** i betur loins hurt huh, sorry could not help it
The one that stands out for me mostly is the amount of fleets we need to build to resource chase as a small to moderate coiner its just not possible to build 4/5 different fleets for resources then on top of that keep up with base fleets/raid fleets/fm fleets its gone beyond crazy.
small to moderate coiner? speaking as a non coiner what the **** r u talking about?
One thing I would want you to do is just this. Get a sampling from broad areas of BP. Stop going to the groups that have mods and very hackers. We all know who they are. Get a broad spectrum of players throughout the game and get a better understanding of it. May of the guys that have quit this game in the last two years is due to overloading the game with chores and fleets we don't have time to build in a timely fashion. I know the game has passed the time it was years ago and everything is higher cost but **** man. This is like taxes. Have a few to pay the high bill or have many pay a little. It has gotten way out of hand where I see huge coiners leaving. I am one of those but some how I am addicted to it.. Lets everyone back up a few paces and look at the over all view of it. You need to make money, we understand that, but the trend in the game has gotten so out of hand. Step back and lets get real players involved from broad spectrum. Not just token groups. Listen to them. Try to return it to the days when guys were waiting to get on and play. These days, many hate getting on due to the many chores, camps, FM, bounty and raids. Its just become a constant pain in the **** in our everyday life....... Just take these words of wisdom with you. Build it and they will come. Complicate it and they will leave.....
Real One i agreed with you.
As you i also did quit earlyer, and was out for 11 month's before i did feel like open the game again. Ya , it was a rader bad experience but i managed to get into it again with sector help. The old friends i had before i quit helped me getting into doing targets in FM again.
I do remember back when a ship took 7 or so days to fully build not ranked. And now we have some astronomic build times noone need specialy not the players that want to go out and start using the fleet. Someone will maybe say i want it all for free, thats far from reality. But when we today see build times of close to 30 days fully built that is, then you dont need to a math expert to do the math.
And realy High end players have made themself able to get things done easyer, so why should they be abused for it. Its called abuse when targets are made more challenging just for a specific group.
And chores are not wanted to be week long to address same player groups. Some challenge are ok, but latest changes is overkill and ruin the players need to do the targets any one can see that. Kix can to ! So they should realy remove whats not wanted and redo and adjust to make players happyer.
And yes you say things is made complicated, thats right and should not be. Ship build should be simplefy'ed, and like its now its special fleet for each task we take on. We have seen that 2 fleets have been needed to finish TLC's and me for one dont think thats right. Kix needs to go back to single fleet operation for TLC's. Latest we even had TLC's that took 3 different fleet types to compleet, but for those it was not changed in the row of targets and was also clearly put up because it was co-op's
Needs to be made simple and with Time usage down to 2-3 years back to make game fun again. Now we all have stack's of builds, chores we should do to get going and are missing yard time to get it done.
Im raid events Kixeye removed generic build tokens, why i never saw an expl. for, Right Kix added a big number of fleet tokens for special fleets but that do not make up for what players need. They do need generic ones so THEY choose where to make usage of them. AND! Special hull tokens are less usefull and should be there for less than 4 mill, since regular ones has way more value to the players.
Not sure if anyone said it, as i just went briefly through all pages. I can tell you one thing for sure the moment the new Lead Designer WrongThinker will start his insane ideas we will be doomed. I used to Play War Commander (WC) since nearly begin, the moment that WrongThinkertook his role in WC, everything changed to more grind, grind and more grind, ofc with buffed up dmg, difficulty and more insanity, then ive decided that I'm(and loads my friends) are tired of his insane ideas of so called improvements and fixing things that been working just fine till he touched it. So just so you know, when he will get his hands on BP we will be doomed. So I didnt believe in even one word from Will Harbin, as all he care is more and more of your money and definitely not pleasure or fun from playing Kixeye Game. Said it just to warn ya, soon you will see as Doomsday is upon us.
LOL Destro, Mr. Harbin, yes I have hit your base in the past, this is like when Kix changed the graphics for BP and the players revolted, and you didn't change a thing, so I for one don't believe you Mr. Harbin. The game isn't fun and PVP is a joke, I just do FM since it is more exciting than raid. I have had many friends that left the game since it sucks now.
The promises, trust us, rebalance etc have all be promised before and quickly broken, or made worse.
You will be judged by your immediate actions and not your long-time promises. You have little real understanding how upset the community is and how so many are barely hanging on by a thread.
I believe that you will just develop more content to force us to pay for your mistakes. We have seen it all before, many times. You do not have time for a grand plan! The communities patience is exhausted and we don't trust you. This is probably your last throw of the dice for most players I know.
So here is my challenge for you, take some immediate action by:
#1 immediately abandon your proposed FM changes so you don't leave even more players behind
#2 return the Draconian bases and Draconian Uranium bases so that players can get the necessary resources they need to play
#3 drop the repair times on your current PvE hulls by 50%

BS Will if you are not in it for the money then remove that aspect from the game. The game is a long way from Player first as it is proven it is your **** pocket first policy and to hell with the players as submitting a ticket proves. You have allowed the game to get out of hand all over money and if anyone believes what you said they are blind and dumb you know like sheep. Let the big mouths start replying but I do not care .
You NEED to bring back the DUB's! When a player needs 200,000 uranium, and no fleet to do the SSRB's, you get at a standstill. And hitting targets getting 50 uranium at a time isn't working. You've lost reality on this situation.
I happily walked away from the game 5 months ago and have not looked back as the game had gone way off the deep end. The game and its multitude of changes from week to week and from month to month were vastly too much for myself to attempt to stay current or even temporarily competitive. I used to be very active smashing the crap out of bases, but with the changes to the game coming faster than I could build a fleet to smash bases, I had to build fleets for PvE to stay current and hitting PvE targets is no FUN at all. The game at its funnest is hitting other peoples bases and building your own up to stop these fleets from getting into yours. Sadly those days are long gone and many a player has walked away as PvE sucks and is vastly way more damaging on an escalating scale if you do not have the must have hull, weapon, special, armor, etc.
The game got lost a few years back and now you want to try and fix your screw ups, you have got to be kidding me. The players in forums have passionately spoken many a time as to the game needs a fix big time, but all you guys have done is ignore and push the envelope so much that many of those passionate players have walked away from being ignored and the game going into overdrive pushing out crap faster than Rotorooter can empty out the portopoty. The game and where it lies today is all your fault Will Harbin and your words are meaningless.
Maybe you do make some improvements, but it is way to late.
A once very popular game got killed by your greed. Well done I say, well done.
I hope you are serious and that reasonable action is coming. I am truly hopeful you are going to take action that improves our game. But pardon my skepticism. We've seen this kind of Corporate posturing before. Action will speak louder than words and faith is not a bottomless fountain. I look for entertainment in my recreation as do most. The game should reflect entertainment value if you expect to see financial investment from the player base. I fall into that category, I coin today less than last year(almost not at all) and I don't expect that to change. Given the numerous gold deals seen over the last few weeks, you probably are not seeing the influx of cash you expected. Without significant change that will continue to be the trend. Less players willing to invest in their entertainment...
Been taking a wait and see for a good year now so hopefully this goes better than that. That being said I'm a high level player and the one thing I don't see mentioned is how are you addressing long term survival of this game, and by that I mean new blood? Theres a ton of high level players, theres a decent number of mid level players but it sure doesn't seem like there are many new players being brought into this game. Look at the top alliances there are few low level players (and by that I mean people less than 50 and actively trying to play).
This sounds like the same record which was played a couple or so years back when this whole 'State of the Game' idea came about. Whilst the idea was good, the execution was not. Resulting in a chaotic 2016 last quarter and an even more ridiculous 2017.
You say you are putting the players first. Last time a few months back when you said it, you got rid of charged armour, jacked up damage and build/repair times. You made redundant the Buccaneer and to an extent the Hydras. You changed DUBs to SSRBs and forced everybody who didn't like chores to build 2 additional Proto fleets with another 2 coming soon.
If this is putting players first, I'm not sure how it is happening because the players know they are on the bottom of your interests. Just a few idiots, hanging on and paying you cash to hang on. Probably that's how you look at it but hey, every couple of years or so put out a statement PLAYERS FIRST and it will make it better ...... or not.
one way to get players interested again, will be to make the base battles to 5 levels each way only, instead of all the high levels killing everything in sight because they can , restrict the base killing to 5 levels each way, that top me is a better start to fair gameplay
please do not listen to this guy. this is the worst idea
go back to basics. It was fun when it was just 3 damage types be able to look at turrets and see what damage they did look at guards and see weapons on them no FM no Uranium no Titanium no base parts no bounty no VXP . Ranking was ok with res when it was upto 25 percent
Just collect resources, build ships and attack. We are done with these schedules that we have to keep up to
two things bring back the plus 5 minus 5 hit rule to at least lvl 80 two slow down the **** events i get your a business that needs to make money but when you constantly so far behind it takes the fun out of it
so no surprises in your words for me
