Fleet questions

I am returning to this game after a 3 year leave. I am struggling to find any  new information regarding what works as I have tested the designs I could find and see that they don't work as well as discussed.

I have been farming level 20's and got the Hydra Missile 1 and the thermal beam 1.

I have the venom battleship, nighthawk frigate, broadsword destroyer and exodus cruiser for hulls.

I have a fleet of rancor's with hydra missile 1's and shock 2 and plate-steel 1 for instant repairs.

I would like to participate in the events but I can't do bases over 40 (I was able to destroy the level 40 Xeno outpost in last event) but I can't do the 60's (obviously) in the decimate; but I would like to get the higher hull BP's in order to participate better. Can anyone give a good hull design that will allow me to participate in the events?

Also does it matter which weapon I place on a specific hull (IE explosive on battleship, beam on destroyer etc)?

Any help would be great.

I cannot possibly get into the specifics of every ship and every build and every tactic. It goes rebel, vega, vsec, iron star, xeno, axis, altairian, and the new "????" faction coming up. It is very hard to skip factions unless you know what you are doing.

Most things can be farmed with cruisers alone, typically with a carrier with speed boost on it, but several fleets are best done with 5 long range battleships and a carrier.

The methods to get the best things are to farm bps in normal fleets, then do planet strike, then sector strike, then the campaigns, then "smash and grab," then main events. If you have someone helping you out, it is possible to get things out of higher events, but very difficult. The pace of technology is also very fast, and you typically don't have enough time to build all of one faction before going up one, so I typically never build cutters of any kind simply to help me stay ahead.

It's best to get a good strong alliance and then watch others and ask others what to do and how to go from there

Thanks SteelSteve. I currently am trying to farm basics from the level 20 cargos and I am almost done. However, I need a new design to take out the higher ones for less damage or instant repair. Is there a good design based on the tech I have listed above that could take on the 27's?

27 + normal vega cargos can be done well with long range battleships and a speed boost carrier - the god fleet is typically some sort of stasis like arrestor beam or net torpedo and lots of other long range weapons to keep the enemy out of firing range.

If you want to auto-fight these fleets then I believe you should just make a bunch of destroyers with ... just about any weapon and constantly attack your targets until they die. Broadswords with no shields or armor are "insta rep" and can be instantly repaired and sent right back out to battle. 2 fleets of those are what many people used to farm targets up to level 40 even. But like I said, there are many many complicated tactics and it all depends on what you have and what your playstyle is
