I never even got to play, and I even signed up for an e-mail notification.  The reason Tome died, I can't remember, it was probably a lack of popularity, or server instability.

According to Wikipedia, TOME failed because external issues forced KIXEYE to keep reshuffling the game. Moving it from browser to Steam just didn't work for them and forced them to cancel the project.
You know, I really feel like TOME could have gone somewhere if they maybe sold the game, IP, assets, etc. to another company. Or just outsourced development. Something about it seems like a wasted opportunity to me.

I Agree we need tome back with kixeye own client versio and i do think that game would do well. all the time new ppl come and ask where is game? how can i play it? there are so many ppl that want to play this game. in youtube review videos ppl are sad that game is dead and would liek to try the game. alot of ppl i nkixeye public chat wants to try game out but they cant because servers are dead.

So please Kixeye consider this very carefully and make tome back online again!

i hope Will Harbin will see this!

mostly because game was mean to be in browser. but browsers did stop supporting unity. so no more unity games in browser.... that made them move to steam and out there well... they did not get most best reviews but ppl still did play the game. thing that also effected was that there were so many new mobas for ppl to play and tome was more simple game what i dont complain at all because some like more simple and faster stuff like i do.
i wont lie. it would of do some good for game to add new items later but other then that game was fine in my opinion

Tome failed because MOBAS don't have Power Creep to keep coiners coining

What I have seen, he is rarely on the forums. Maybe because he has lost most of the faith from his loyal fans.

    Sounds like soon.

Don't worry brothers, TOME will come back before 2038. Unfortunately the timespan in between will have to be used optimising TOME's in game purchases, therefore no other games will be released until then. If you want to support KIXEYE (and you should, it's an awesome company), please throw your money at War Commander and Vega, two of the finest games I have ever played.

Stay hardcore! Our time shall come.

The closest I have been to TOME is only to check some YouTube videos about it and to check out the the TOME forums. Interestingly enough, WrongThinker was previously a member of the TOME game team.

I played it once but it didn't like my computer. That was during beta, so it may have worked fine at full release, but I'm not really into MOBAs anyway.

The project got shut down quickly either way so the game can't be any good based on that reason.

I don't think it was shut down due to quality reasons Axel. Otherwise by that logic none of KIXEYE's games would be up to be played.
No, it was shut down to due KIXEYE's piss poor planning and a run of bad luck if I recall correctly. The game run on some engine or another (maybe Unity) but that lost web support, forcing them to make their own engine and take the game off the web and put it on Steam.

However, KIXEYE's aforementioned lousy planning skills, or what Harbin called "lack of economic sense" (which honestly sounds like they threw away the games budget to me) forced them to end the games development, but they left the servers running for awhile. Eventually though, the servers followed suit and the entire game died.

I have to disagree with this a fair bit. They originally used flash from what I've read from the very early hints (an old video highlighting new flash games one of which was a clip of Tome from early development) and announcements long before the game entered closed beta, but changed to Unity due to the first wave of technology becoming unsupported. This is what was then released.
Later on support for Unity Web Player was dropped as well as something else I can't remember the name of which forced them to either rewrite a new engine (year+ work) or use Unity's cross platform deployment to deploy to a new platform. The latter is what they chose and the game ran as a native unity application downloadable on Steam. I checked Wikipedia and it says a new engine was written but has no cited source and I distinctly remember getting Unity Engine crash logs when the Steam version of the game crashed.

They had a good target audience which was the casual MOBA players that would like to play a quick match or two during a lunch break at work/school and having the game playable from the browser supported that because you typically wouldn't be able to download and install a game from Steam at work.
Due to being forced off the web and onto Steam they lost a large portion of those players, many of which I was good friends with, because they were no longer able to play from school/work. Additionally being on Steam meant going up against DOTA 2, a titan of the genre. If you're in a position to download and install a game most people would pick DOTA 2 over Tome.

The tragic part is if they aimed for putting Tome onto Mobile they would have beaten Vainglory to market and probably gotten a large share of the mobile MOBA market.
The same thing occurred with BYM, they failed to release to mobile in a timely manner and missed out big time. Although they succeeded in being first on Facebook (two years before Clash of Clans existed), Clash of Clans gobbled up most of the market share on Mobile by being released first on the platform and the genre was over saturated by the time BYM:U was released.
The problem with all this is that the whole industry was in a transition period between Facebook games and Mobile games and Kixeye missed the opportunity.

Just want to point out that this stuff I talked about is what I recall the developers saying in official statements or whatever. I don't remember specifics, and in this case, didn't care much to go double check. Perhaps I got it wrong, if so, my bad. All I recall is a few things stated by Harbin that they made **** decisions and it caused the game to collapse. Although in fairness, the lack of economic sense/bad planning could potentially translate out to something along the lines of what you said with KIXEYE just not going to the right places at the right time, in this case, the mobile market.

I do actually remember that whole thing with Unity falling off the web, its pretty much the reason VEGA Conflict is where its at now with it being multi-platform on Steam and mobile. As I recall, it briefly started in Flash, quickly jumped to Unity early in development (getting a large makeover to boot,) then Unity got unsupported for reasons I no longer remember so they decided to go with Steam and mobile.
