NOTE-THIS IS WORK IN PROGRESS

This Article is devoted to the rather closed topic of base defending.

In VEGA conflict base strategy is everything. Your fleets may be powerful, you may be the most feared man in the sector, but if your base sucks then your going to lose materials as fast as you farm/steal them (your play style). This guide contains the key info you need to build a strong base.

NOTE:I am dedicating this guide to base defending and as such know what I'm doing. However even with base defence heavy coiners and fleet spammers can get in even if they are persistent enough. What I am saying is that I am NOT claiming to give you a guide to the strongest base, so if your base gets levelled pick up the pieces and move on (Do Not come to this article page and start sc*wing at me for making a crappy guide).

The Beginning- level 1-19

When you first start off the game your priorities will to upgrade your ships, build modules, upgrade your bridge blah, blah, blah. Until you plan on defending yourself. This is Where I come in:

The first thing to do is use your weapons lab to research some base weapons! (Turrets don't do squat without a gun). Go to the weapons lab (the big red one) and click it, in the corner is base weapons click it to be bought to the base defence weapons emporium. (You will need to research all your base weapons here). Since the only weapon you can afford at the moment (unless you went mad grinding) is the thermal beam research it (the first level is unlocked if I remember correctly) once there let the research finish. If you can upgrade your lab and research to level 3 in the time (levels 4 and 5 for the thermal laser are to expensive to achieve in you protection period unless you coin). From here build your combat module. You will immediately enter a page showing you a lot of key info which I will explain.

The majority of the page shows the module (and what equipment slots the module has) with a small window on its side showing its level and cost to upgrade (and time if you don't have anything upgrading at the time).

The bottom of the window shows the modules mass- THIS IS IMPORTANT. If the module is overweight then the configuration cannot be built. You can increase the maximum mass held by upgrading the module.

The basic level one turret can be instantly built, but is trash (only good for stopping corvettes) and will barely hold your level 3 beam turret (200 tonne maximum weight which is the same as that of the turret. So while you get a basic set of turret (build the maximum number allowed)defences operational. It will die in 20 seconds to someone who gets a rail driver. So here there is a new aim. You will need to upgrade all your turrets to a minimum level of 4 (when it unlocks a armour and special slot) (remember to research module armour in the hull lab!). At the same time research the coil driver turret (level 2 minimum for low levels).

Now your probably wondering why you need to research such a low damage turret. Its because if you have only thermal ray turrets. Anyone with a destroyer class warship will be able to out range and destroy your base. These coil drivers give potential destroyer fleets a good reason not to try. However, Do not have only coil drivers because while they're projectiles are long ranged. They are slow and the turrets have a minimum range. If someone gets within that range the turret is helpless.

This is where the thermal ray turrets come in (fit half your turrets thermal ray and coil driver) . Place your thermal ray next to your coil drivers and Blitz fleets will not be able to enter the turrets minimum range without being shredded by a much higher damage thermal ray turret.

Now that you have a basic set of defences its time to start redesigning your base. Because at the moment your base (in most cases) will be making your turrets useless (they are too spread out to support each other)

The first thing you will be to arrange your bridge in the middle of your map and wrap your resource storage silos around your bridge. From here attach the turrets directly to the outside of the cluster at regular intervals (I recommend them at the 4 corners of your base.)

Remember to place one coil driver and one thermal turret on each side so that the enemy can't charge into the blind spots.

Then Finally place your mining platforms in a loose ring around your base -have them still mining(not free floating) and don't have them to close to your  central hub (bridge silo's turrets e.c.t.) use you labs to get power to them so they can mine. Also remember to shift your ship factory and dock outward into the outer ring with the miners (they aren't worth it at this level) use your labs as the power conduit to get the power to the miners as they are fast repair at low levels.

From here you are pretty much set (as a beginner base you will give your enemies a hard time getting in). Remember however as you level up that higher level fleets can attack you so make doubly sure that you constantly upgrade your module, base weaponry, armour and (in the long term when you have the slots on your modules for them) base shields. Do this and you will still be a strong base in the future.

MID LEVEL PLAYERS (20-29)

By now you should be at least level 20, have some decent fleets and have a couple of enemies. Here is a guide to what you should be doing to stay in the game (defence wise):

Upgrade your bridge constantly (costly but unlocks more combat modules and also unlocks new weapon, hull and special lab upgrade levels) this will mean you will be able to build a stronger set of defences. Your bridge should be at least level 3.

Upgrade your combat modules (this is important as at higher levels there maximum tonnage will increase so more powerful weapons and armour can be fitted.) at a level 3 bridge you should have built 10 terminus mines and placed them around your base as a way to introduce blitz fleets to a quick hassle free death.Have level 4 thermal ray turrets. IF not then your lagging behind and should have either replaced your coil driver turrets with  plasma missile turrets or added iridium arrays to your coil driver( which should be at least level 3 or 4 to do any decent damage, you could use the kinetic driver but while it has more punch it costs a lot to upgrade to do more damage than a level 3 or 4 coil driver at this stage and is just to slow to hit targets even with the iridium arrays) so that they are harder to dodge.

Try to stockpile material to upgrade to a level 4 bridge ASAP at level 4 you can actually build your combat modules beyond level 7 and get a shield emitter on them (this is important!) Fit the shield slot with either deflector (If the sector your in is prone to attack by sniper fleets (destroyer fleets) or shock wave shields for battleship fleets, at least get you turrets to level 8 and outfit them with the best armour you have (if you have capacitive plate armour and have met the requirements for it use it since its better that level 5 tritanium armour at its tier one form).

Also at a level 4 bridge start building your storage modules to a similar level as your combat modules (they also gain shields at level 8,equip them with shock wave shields and don't forget to fit the bridge!)

Also at a level 4 bridge upgrade your terminus mines, otherwise when you reach level 25, level 30 who are to pathetic to hit at their own level will start attempting to use their beefier fleets to rush your base, remember while your thermal ray turrets are good (and should be LEVEL 5 by this point!) heavy spectral shielding or Vega's regenerative spectral shielding will make rushing viable. At higher levels your mines gain a damage boost meaning that stronger enemies can no longer pass over the mines and live to blitz your bridge and storage buildings.

Note: By this point you should aim to start getting your hands on high level iridium array's and focusing aperture as your main priority (at least level 2 or 3, levels 4/5 are very expensive and only really attainable in the endgame (level 30 onwards) also a thing to note is that higher levels will have higher level thrusters so will be able to dodge your coil driver shells even with the additional speed (nevertheless to say the shells will still massacre lower levels trying your base unless they thought ahead and prepared your base or somehow managed to get regenerating shields or high level rear thruster).

Also a new goal is to upgrade your storage modules (I say this because with level 8 combat modules the collateral damage caused by one of them going boom is likely to level low level storage modules so you will need to upgrade them to add armour and preferably a shield as well (just a note, If your bridge goes boom, nothing short of zynthium armour 5 will stop your modules going, and even that might not be enough... so remember, keep your bridge in the centre and priorities it first in defensive upgrades like armour and shields).

Also to state something DEFENCE FLEETS ARE STILL USELESS (anyone with a stronger fleet than your will simply have to role up,flatten your fleet the attack your base, the fleet will be wasted and unless you really want to keep your base safe for an upgrade, it just isn't worth the ships repair time, unless they are free instant repair).

An that is pretty much it for the basics of Mid level defence!

High level Defence guide (level 30+)

By now you are at the top or the sectors pecking order, are a well known person in the sector and a major source of resources for anyone who is willing to attack you. This is the final part of the guide.

By now you should have researched iridium array's 3 or 4 (5 if you are above 36) and equipped them to your kinetic driver/ coil driver (if you are in the low 30's). As with before you will need to upgrade your modules (primarily combat and storage as far as possible) and upgrade your armour and specials regularly. The ideal armour for you modules is going to be capacitive plates level 3 (zynthium armour 4 and 5 work well if you don't yet have them) and you should have substituted your thermal beam turrets for tachyon beam turrets (even the level 1 is better than the thermal ray turret due to its much longer range with a insignificant small damage drop). Also a major thing to strive for is VEGA's Base Meta phase Shielding which protects against all damage types equally (even if it is only 80 percent efficient at damage blocking) and coupled with its high shield energy makes it the must have for a base (equip it with capacitive plates to the bridge and it will be a pain for attackers to destroy).

Now that you are higher level it is time to once again reshape your base. Here is what you will need to do:

Keep your storage and bridge in the centre of the map in a dense cluster shape (storage wrapped around the bridge). Then attach your turrets to the dies of the cluster at the 4 corners again. (north, west, south and east). Here is where your base design changes according to your bridge level) If your bridge is level 4 then place you turrets so that 2 of you turrets are attacked diagonally to the main storage cluster, If your bridge is level 5 place all your turrets in a arrow like design with 3 turrets at each corner of the storage cluster.(square). Ideally have one projectile, one beam/energy and one explosive on each side so that enemies shields are drained fast (I recommend high level plasma chargers as plasma missiles are just too slow to hit anything and their minimum range makes them useless at close quarters (unless your enemies like sniper fleets then use plasma missiles since a destroyer fleet with mass drivers can out range plasma chargers)

Note:As of now ships don't have meta phase shielding (technically they do but it is rubbish so this design should work assuming your turrets are high level, have their specials fitted with boosters(high level focusing optics, iridium arrays,or antimatter or spreader attachments)

As for the outside (miners) of your base it is pretty the same as before at level 20 (just bring your ship factory and yard closer since they now take a meaningful time to repair at higher levels and outfit the modules with the higher armour as the longer a person takes to kill the miners the less time they have to attack your main storage cluster as most foes "rim the miners before attacking the bridge and storage))

Just something to note though about your miners -DO NOT FIT SHIELDING OR ARMOUR! (you want to maximise the damage you suffer so the amount of time the enemy has to attack is lowered because after your miners pop the 2 hour bubble will most likely trigger. (If you equip shields this will increase the time taken to kill a miner yes but it will also mean the bubble will trip with more difficultly so the enemy has more attempts to crack your base and a determined enough enemy will (even at great cost)

And you are prepared to survive the frying pan that is base defence.

Finished!- I will still come on to modify the guide and update it if anything changes or I learn some new tricks to make enemies loath attacking. :)

I am trying to find info on the fleet bay. Under the manage tab there are two icons that look like fighters. Where can I find the items for these sits?
    Thanks

I thought that only players of 5 above or below your level in vega conflict but I am being attacked by levels 10 levels and higher than me (my level is 39)

Same thing started happening to me when I passed lvl 35. Even 50+ have been attacking. I think that above lvl 35, you're vulnerable to all levels? Not sure.

35 is the level where one becomes vulnerable to all fleets as far as base attacks go.  Smart players try to keep their bases as low as possible because the base level does not impede having high lvl fleets but discourages attacks.
Of course if a player knew this in advance they would keep the base at the lowest level.  That is why the rules need to be in a central place.  Not scattered all over the internet.

You would need to research fighters in the arms lab or they are prizes in events

Good job, man. Do not forget to place mines on the outer edge of the circle of arms on the main base.

I have played for 52 weeks, thats a year and you don't even have a base linked to your account so you must not play at all, guides are always free, and you should be banned for advertising on the forums
