Firstly i'm no expert so take these tips with a pinch of salt. Some will work for you, others will not. It will however give new players the basic ideas, as it's intended use. I have gathered these tips & tricks with learning, playing and simply reading the forums over time. Some of it has come from the war commander wiki and through other players. I hope it helps you in one way or another. 

I hope players will share their own tips & tricks and hopefully i will have room to edit them into the posts. Enjoy!

Note) I am still working on quite a bit of it, and hope to do videos or something on rouges at a later date. If you can help, that would be awesome!! (I still got some pictures to add too)

    - Base designs

    • There is many base designs, many old & new. Find the one for you by simply scouting high level bases, ask for players to attack your base in peaceful sectors, find out the weaknesses and adapt, if it does not work to your liking then scout another base. High level players tend to have very good basic base setups. 
    • One of most important things when designing your base, is ask yourself what do you want to protect. ie, things like your res, thorium, power plants, command center, go-go bar, tech center and such. What's important to you.
    • The other is, do you want a mix of anti air & anti ground, or do you want to go more on anti air or anti ground. Then you set your base towards that.

    - Banking

    • You can hide your res away by "banking" them on upgrades. We do this on upgrades that we don't need or want. If your low-mid level its not too smart to waste upgrades. So be sure there's nothing important in the tech center/aca/defence lab that you want to upgrade. 
    • The hellfire turret and the flak gun turret are somewhat the most non needed turrets at this time. So if you have nothing important to upgrade, you can bank your res on them. This is around 20-25 million. 
    • For high levels or mid levels who went out on a limb to earn prizes such as the widowmaker or the spectre. We can bank res on these units by building and scarping them. Always scarp them before they are built. That way you will get the full res back. 
    • Of coruse we will want to use these units sometime, so it's best to wait till these units are of decent level before using them. If your always being attacked and like banking, and don't want to have these units, then that would be great for you. These units are a beast tho, so it's advised you do use them when of decent level.
    • Widowmaker = around 40 million banked res. - build time around 2 days.
    • Spectre = around 40 million banked res. - build time around 2 days.
    • You can also bank res on mega tanks, if you have not got the above units. But be careful, they have a short build time compared to the above units. If you have the free storage space, you can build many maga tanks netting you around 10-15+ million of banked res. The build time is just near the 5 hour mark per mega.

    - Shortcuts

    • When moving buildings, hold down the shift key to be able to move buildings faster. Make sure to turn shortcuts [on] in the options of the game at the top right hand side.

    - Go-go Bar

    The Go-Go Bar improves troop morale, giving your units bonus damage when defending your base. Rogue Factions love it too - turn up the music to lure them to your base so you can test your defenses.

    • Its good to protect your go-go bar. Its gives you around a 20% bonus to your defending units.
    • Although mainly looked down upon, a person can use the go-go bar to destroy most of their buildings and have their friend come attack to receive a damage protection (bubble) for 18 hours if the base is at least 50% damaged or 36 hours for 75% damage or more. 
    • Once enemy units destroy the go-go bar, defensive units will no longer have a damage bonus until the go-go bar is fully repaired. 
    • Any damage caused to your base by the go-go bar, is LIVE damage, and will take the same amount of time to repair, as if you were attacked by another player, however it will not give you damage protection nor take your resources.
    • A good way of testing your defense, is by getting attacked by the go-go bar. There is a limit to how many units you can send, and the AI is not the best. So this is just a basic easy attack, to see how you fare against a certain unit or units.
    • The level of the units the go-go bar attacks you, depends on your level of units. Whatever level your units are, the go-go bar units will be.
    • Only units that the Player has unlocked may be deployed from the go-go bar.

    - Storage

    Metal Storage houses metal for later use. Upgraded Metal Storage stores more tonnage.

    Oil Storage keeps oil on reserve until it's needed. Upgrading Oil Storage increases the amount of barrels it can store. 

    • Total capacity per one building = 9,000,000
    • Total build time for all the levels together is around 36 hours.
    • It's up to you if you wish to protect these buildings or not. Be sure to know when you are making your base, where these are going to go.
    • There are many bases that can protect res, and give the enemy much repair times. These are called "balanced" bases. They tend to have a weakness somewhere, be sure to look out for it.
    • There are bases that we call "anti bubble". These are bases that don't protect their storage's with their turrets. They are at high risk of being "farmed". Meaning that you can bring units to the base and hit res, but don't do any great damage to the inner defence or give a bubble.
    • So if you want these type of bases, be sure you know what your getting into. If you have an anti bubble base, be sure to have as little of res on you. Banking can help you with this.
    • In events, most players tend to put these outside the inner defence. Make more or less a wall that gives you free units aka last stand. This will help you in defence waves.

    - Power Plant

    The Power Plant is the heartbeat of base operations, generating energy to power defenses and maintain production.

    • Most players call these the PP, meaning power plants.
    • You will want to keep most if not all, of your PP protected for the main reason, that when power plants are half health or fully dead, they lose power. Therefore causing your turrets to run on low power. This is very bad, as it means your turrets will not fully fire like they would when on full power. This gives attackers great chance to kill your base when PP are down, and will give less repairs or none if you face a skillful player. 
    • So remember, that PP on low power fire slower. So they are very important.
    • I myself have all my PP protected, as if one dies, i can just about get about with it, without losing too much power.
    • It's best to max these as soon as possible. Get the upgrades out of the road.

    - Command Center

    The Command Center is the hub of all of your Base activity. Upgrade the Command Center to unlock new buildings, upgrade existing buildings, and enhance Defensive Turrets and Resource Producers.

    • Total oil and metal for all levels together is just over 19 million. 
    • Total time to build all levels together is around 16 days with level 6 being the longest at just under 12 days.
    • As with the storage, it's up to you when making your base, if you wish to defend the command center. You will lose nothing but some res from it, if it does fall. 
    • The CC as players like to call it, will hold some thorium as well. So be sure to keep that in mind. 
    • A few tips would be, the air unit the kondor aims for the command center. So if you have the CC in a corner, lets say the southeast and your inner defence is at the northwest, then the kondor will miss most of your defence.
    • You can hide a few buildings behind the command center. Sometimes players won't even notice these buildings or if your very sneaky you can put a turret behind it. But be warned, that is pretty much common knowledge to most skilled players.
    • You can also hide quite a good part of your army under the command center. Always a nice surprise that is.

    - Walls

    • These are very important now in war commander, and can mean life and death in some cases. Too close, and your base will be ate alive, too far, and you won't get the bonus of free shots.  
    • You want to have your walls as close, yet not too close. Have your walls at the very least 5 or 6 walls lengths from the turrets. This way, the splash from units will not hurt you too much or at all while your turrets are getting free shots on the enemy units without being hit. It's also advised you set up your walls like this during defence waves. It greatly helps you.
    • Walls are a great annoyance to units such as the FAV.

    - Bunkers

    • These are great buildings for defence. The norm for most high level these days is to put in (1) custom sniper (1) suicide bomber (1) shock trooper (3) stingers and the rest are elite riflemen. This is a mixed bunker and can cause much annoyance to the enemy. During events these are great.
    • The custom sniper can cause a fair amount of damage to units. And are great at killing cheap baiting units.
    • My fav the suicide bomber will kill close enemy units who are silly enough to have got close to my bunkers. Most times, i kill the whole platoon. FAVs and the like who kill my bunker go up in smoke.
    • The shock trooper will more or less stop one unit, giving your less to deal with, and also giving you time to take it out. 
    • The stingers are anti air, while also being anti missile. They are highly needed in any base. A must have.
    • The elite riflemen are just their to fill up the space. They do a fair bit of damage. Heavy gunners might be better in some cases.
    • You can of course add your own mix, like custom mortar teams in watchtowers with long range, they are always a pain. Just remember that shock other shock troops will hit the same target, but will increase the stun time. More bombers would add more bang, and more chance to run and kill enemy units. More snipers will add more damage. More stingers will shoot at more stuff.
    • You can use any type of bunker to be honest, Anti air, anti ground, or normal bunkers all do an awesome job, and more or less do each others job anyway. All are anti air, anti ground when you think about it, as there is no true weakness apart from shorter ranges, can take more damage, but it's not that noticeable if at all really.

    - Mines

    • Mines can be a **** at times. You always got to watch your back with these things. Your walking along, and boom goes your platoon. So always scout ahead with the best mine sweepers. They are Dogs turning on with RUBI. Riflemen in front of your platoons, or heavy gunners or some other cheap repair unit.
    • For defending. You can have them on spawn points, or near corners. To find the spawn points, you can ask your friend to attack you, and you can place the mines in that spot, or you can use the go-go bar, and place mines where they spawn. I have only heard that works, so be sure to check if it does.
    • It's best to get your mines upgrades as soon as you can, they get better.
    • You can also put mines just outside your turrets range. This is a nice tactic and be sure to hit something.

    - Shortcuts

    • When attacking buildings & turrets or other, hold down the shift key and click attack. You units should not move forward. This helps cut down the mistakes of you clicking land, and your units move and die.

    - Attacking platoons

    Attacking platoons or catching the enemy before hitting a base is called sniping. This is a valid tactic like in real life war, killing your enemy before they get to the battlefield.

    • The most basic sniping platoon is just one buggy or just one dog. For both fast repair reasons, and you don't really need any more, because you use your air to snipe most times. 
    • For other cover platoons, you can use a mix of units, gats, stingers, glads, flaks, lasers, elite riflemen, heavy gunners. There is so many options. Just be sure, that platoon you set up is right for you. Ask around for what's the best cover platoons. They are always changing, as with the game. The most basic cover unit still remains.
    • Never sit beside enemy platoons on world map. They will always fast attack you.
    • You can fast attack by "leaving attack" just before the battle ends. Don't click "end" attack. This will bring you back to the world map, and you can have the upper hand of knowing how long is to go before the battle ends, and hit your enemy who is silly enough to sit beside you. 
    • Always hover your mouse over the enemy platoons, so you can be even faster at attacking platoons or re-attacking bases.
    • If your in a big fight, and don't want to watch over all your platoons. You can have them a small bit away from the fight. This will cut down the travel time from your base as well.
    • Nearly always bring every sniping platoon you have. OUTNUMBER is a great tactic. Many players fail to use this. This can help you with attacking bases, or sniping.
    • With many platoons you can block enemy units that are attacking. Giving them no where to go, but to attack you. This gives you a HUGE chance to to snipe them. Be sure of what you are doing. Sometimes it's best to map a 1 gap wide blockade than sitting beside them, for the above reasons, that if they are smart enough, they will fast attack you. 
    • Always try to have cover platoons protecting your heavy platoons. If you were attacking a base you can put a cover unit at each side of the heavy, and 2 behind it. Therefore blocking access to the heavy platoon. When you see the gap, run your unit home if the enemy were around. Better safe than sorry. 
    • There is a few tactics for attacking & defending. Most good clans know and use these. 
    • The ring of love: You and your team makes a blockade around a base or platoon. You attack each other and hold the platoons. Your enemy will not be able to do anything. Clans with much teamwork, can leave and defend a gap, for heavy platoons to come in and out.

    - Defending platoons

    • As stated above, never sit beside an enemy platoon.
    • Outnumber the enemy can play a big part. They just have too much to deal with, and giving you or your team many chances to snipe them before they hit your base or platoon.
    • Always try to have protect to your heavy AA platoons or you heavy repair sniping platoons. While you want to use them, there are units that will kill you. So always be on the look out.
    • One man army: You can pretty much keep anyone from your base for a very long time, if you have it to spare. This is done, by attacking and holding platoons. You can block the incoming enemy platoons to your base, all you need to do, is be fast enough to attack. You can block all access to your base. Just be sure to watch the timers and re-attack fast. Kill units when you can. I would also suggest you have a few extra units laying around somewhere to snipe the heavy platoons. Hide them in depos, or around the map. Cause you can be sure, a gap may open for the enemy at some stage, so you need to have more platoons out since you can't deploy while under attack.
    • Alert: It's good to have your units all the way around your base. This will warn you, both offline and online with attack pop ups. I myself have 13 riflemen in a platoon just for annoyance sake than using buggy or dogs. You can free heal this platoon likely depending on the level of your barracks.

    - Units

    • When you upgrade a Unit to Level 10 it will gain the following advantages:

    Level 10 Infantry

    • Riflemen increased movement speed
    • Heavy Gunner gets greatly increased rate of fire
    • Mortar Team have much larger splash radius
    • Flamethrower set targets on fire
    • Attack Dog takes reduced damage from mines
    • Suicide Bomber has a bigger explosion
    • Sniper moves twice as fast
    • Shock Trooper stuns targets longer
    • Hercules takes reduced damage from air units
    • Colossus has substantially more health
    • Stingers have increased splash radius

    Level 10 Vehicles

    • Jackrabbit takes reduced damage from tanks
    • Rocket Buggy has higher top speed
    • Humvee does substantially more damage to most infantry
    • Rhino gains faster movement
    • Honey Badger much higher turn speed
    • Razorback gains Increased damage against buildings
    • Gatling Truck takes reduced damage from air units
    • Elite Gatling Truck takes reduced damage from air units
    • Paladin has substantially more health
    • Suicide Truck has a bigger explosion
    • Shock Tank stuns targets longer
    • Flak Tank takes reduced damage from air units
    • Laser Tank takes drastically reduced damage laser and plasma attacks
    • Elite Laser Tank takes drastically reduced damage laser and plasma attacks
    • Challenger has increased rate of fire
    • Hellfire has increased rate of fire
    • Elite Hellfire has increased rate of fire
    • Mega Tank fires two shells in quick succession
    • Behemoth has substantially more health

    Level 10 Aircraft

    • Wing Drones has a bigger splash radius
    • Copter Drones gains increased speed
    • Cobra does substantially more damage to most infantry
    • Thunderbolt has a wider strafing run
    • Warhawk has a higher top speed
    • Elite Warhawk has a higher top speed
    • Raptor set targets on fire
    • Kondor has a higher top speed
    • Havoc has substantially more health
    • Hellstorm has a splitting rocket

    - Upgrades

    • Always try to get a unit to at least a level 6 before using it. This is when these units start to become good.
    • Whenever you start to upgrade a unit that is needing thorium to level up, that's also a good time to start using them.

    - Events

    • Firstly don't rush. Read up on past units or ask on the forum for advise. 
    • Always try to choose units that would work for you.
    • Pick units that you will upgrade, or will focus on mostly. But don't neglect your basic units, like mega tanks, cobras, riflemen, mortar team. Many of these basic units are used by high levels today. 
    • You should think about the future. What units will help you in future events and help you to gain more better prices?
    • Do you attack or defend more? What units will help you?
    • Do you have problems with defence or attacking in events?
    • Ask yourself these basic things always. Just don't pick what looks good, or where the hype is.

    •  Turn on your radio towers *Attack notifications* and register your email so you can know the exact moment you are being hit

    - Turret levels

    • Lvl 1: Green
    • Lvl 2: Yellow
    • Lvl 3: Purple
    • Lvl 4: Blue
    • Lvl 5: Red

    - Resource Pumps

    • Don't collect the res from them. If you leave them be, they will stop working and use less power. In war it is good to do this.
    • They are fast to repair also, so put them in places where attackers will hit them. Free last stand units for you.

    - Thorium

    • Not much really to say here. But the most simple of tip is. SPEND IT. Never hold it.

    - Clans

    • They are a love-hate deal. You can learn so much from team-mates and players in clans, but don't join too early, you will want to upgrade and learn on your own just as much. Sometimes wars happen and they can set you back a few weeks.
    • There are many clans out there who accept players. You just need to find the right one. Jump sectors and see, spend the week there.
    • Decide what type of player you are, or want to become. Do you want to upgrade in peace? Do you want attack players? Do you want both? Do you like sector rules? Ask yourself this before joining these types of clans, because not all are the same. 
    • Many clans live and die by enforced sector rules. This can be quite good for low-mid levels, you will have protection while also learning. You will likely be asked to hit players on hitlist every so often. I would suggest you do. That way you learn. You can always get help, or ask for peace if things don't go so well. Most players are alright.
    • War clans. These are the best overall clans for the game. They will own many clans around their size, sometimes even more. By working as a team often, and chatting together, they really become a true force. The only clans to give these clans much bother is full sector clans & allies, or better war clans. You can learn and upgrade nearly just as much if not better. Attacking players (on paper) is always more rewarding if done right.
    • Then we come to the type of clan where it's just plain basic fun. You will get a good mix of things here, but never really being the best. These clans are mostly a tight nit family of friends.

    • Always scout the forums for News, Intel, Updates and just general discussions. This will help you learn, while also gather Intel on upcoming stuff. Half the war is knowing whats coming! Many times i have done events just by reading before hand and cut my could be losses.

    Too lazy to make a video. But here's the general blueprints for anyone who can't do them. You can do these in 10 mins or less. Netting you nice income of res. With extra loot spec ops, you fly up in res in no time. Also you have chance to get lost tech, or rare/good spec ops. I myself got two rares the other day, i killed about 15 odd in total over a few days and got the 2 rares out of them. Jumbo jet and 2 Hellstorms (that i dont need lol).

    Don't let the rank of the rouge put you off. Nearly anyone with mid level units can take this out.

    Strategy: 

    • 1. Deploy 1 air then deploy Anti Air, watch Valks come to you, and kill.
    • 2. Retreat all units
    • 3. Deploy ERM then deploy air, wait and kill all the enforcers coming towards you.
    • 4. Deploy or dog, or use one ERM to bait the chally at the front.
    • 5. Deploy Hellfires, take out front turrets. Taking about both turrets from a corner should kill the bunkers and the gat, the gat moves so be careful, but HF kill it easy. End attack.
    • 6. Deploy megas or something to kill gats, just bring them up to the front line, but not too close. Use air and bring them to the gun turret on west side, gats should come to you.
    • 7. Use your air to kill nearby turrets and shoot at the chally behind metal storage and power plant. Then shoot at the mega, and razor. You don't need to kill them, just shoot and they will run away up north, don't waste time shooting them.
    • 8. Use megas or a semi long ranged unit to kill buildings. Nothing should shoot at you if you follow the blue lines.

    • Pink = They will rush to you.
    • Red line = To hit with Hellfires.
    • Green = Units to kill. Only the gats move if you use air. 
    • Blue = line to follow with megas or other semi long ranged unit. Any decent level tanks will do.

    You can use my previous guide to RF bases (pictures). Over time I developed some new tactics and use a lot of different units, so I'll do some videos of it. Of course, it can't really help out new player but these with certain toys. However, I do try to do as much bases without air, so that it doesn't depends on what air you bring. I'll do my first set of vid's on how I do it, than maybe if I got time, make some videos with using other, lower level toys.

    Ok I would like to know the tips on playing against this. I have come across a group who have platoons around their base that are not able to be attacked.... how can I attack these platoons if when i hit attack I am told I am unable to attack the platoon BUT that platoon can attack me ????

    It's likely a cheat. Players use some kind of cheat with their low level accounts. Don't know how it works, and don't want to. Just report them, send the co-ords, screenshots if you can, player names, and send to support. The link is in my sig. You can report them as "other" when sending the ticket.

    Another tip that i don tthink was mentioned anywhere in here, is when designing your base if you hold the SHIFT button you automaticly pick up buildings when you click on them. Very helpful when move walls

    Great tips :) I would add a section on upgrading traps.

    0.) Once you build or upgrade something you can never undo it.

    1.) Upgrading certain buildings will level you very fast and you may reach Level 30 before it is advisable (I believe turret bases are such)

    2.) Spam units are not worth upgrading beyond a certain level because they will take longer to repair:

    • Rocket buggies can be insta repaired, two at a time at a level 9 when they already outrange a MG turret. Upgrading them further will not add significant benefit, but you will lose insta repair two of them ability.
    • FAV upgraded to 4 flamethrowers is good enough (level 8) but at level 9 it will only double your repair times with little more benefit.

    3.) Resource producers play pretty much no role in resource acquisition, as they produce very little compared to what you will need for upgrades. Resources are gathered by raiding rogues and other players. Building or Upgrading them will however use up power. (I am not sure if they consume no power at all once full, as implied above)
