Can a battleship fire all of its weapons on both broadsides simultaneously? It's just that i noticed that a battleships seems to fire on both directions if enemies are in range on both flanks of the battleship so a rancor would shoot like it has 8 weapons.

AI fleets fire both at once. I strafed around with 2 frigates on one cargo fleet and both sides were firing off rounds at same time.

It does not, it behaves just like any other ship with the exception that it has two firing arcs to pick the closest target from. If it helps, think of it like a genesis with the front taken off, it still has 4 weapons and they all target the nearest target avaliable to them if you haven't given them a primary target.
zys you disappoint. i thought you were more knowledgeable than that! battleships do indeed fire out of both sides when targets are in range. i posted this as a bug within a day or two of having unlocked rancors. it is either by design or too hard for them to figure out how to change it so only one side can fire. this is why i was so excited to try out venoms in bases...double the firepower! sadly it only works out after the base is basically destroyed so you dont have 10 plasma chargers firing at your ships.

I agree with above.. The first reply is false...
Battleships fire from each side independently.. So in case of rancors, you can technically fire equivalent of 8 weapons...

Just imagine the Fury now . . .having 6 weapons.  Which means equivalent of 12 firing . . .lmao.

I'm sorry if all I do all day is troll with Frigates, I was working with logical assumptions that 4 guns implied only 4 guns ever firing... Never noticed it firing at both sides, will definitely need to hit more bases in the future. ._.

Hmm, that may formulate a nice rushing formation then. Make the lead ship and the ship behind it pure Beam then have 2 exos supporting each flank. Wedging the Battleships into the enemy position would be deadly even with the compromised DPS from the rear thrusters needed in order for the ships to keep with the exos.

Zys, Why not have your lead ship be an Exodus built for heavy armor and shields to soak damage so you don't have to worry about half of your main DPS being taken out by everything that targets it?

Certainly of course when the battle begins the ships will be grouped in a 2x3 formation as close as possible, only when the battle begins does the two center battleships rush forward. Though I see your concern with the lack of heavy armor, I would rather reserve the center for battleships to maximize this exploit and to make it easier to wedge it into the enemy formation. As well, since not as much DPS is needed to actually do significant damage due to the x2 effect, as well as the rears not taking up that much weight, a good chunk of armoring and shields can be put on those battleships.

A plan I would see would be something like this for a decent turtle/blitz formation:

    2   1   3
    4   5   6

1: Lead Battleship: Decent to Low DPS, no need for too high. High shields, decently high armor. Just enough rear thrusters to match exos or a tiny bit swifter.
2, 3: Lower DPS than regular blitz exo setups, High shields, decently high armor. Minimal to no thrusters.
4, 6: Higher DPS than regular blitz exo setups, High shields, little to no armor. Minimal thrusters or High thrusters and push the front two exos to go a bit faster. (Problem does occur if enemy tries to flank though)
5: Following Battleship: Decent to Above Decent DPS, High shields, decent to low armor. Same thrusters/slightly higher to give a boost, thrusters as lead Battleship.

    Kami, your thoughts?

    That's nice.

It's nubs like you that make the game utter hell without the relocation update. ._. Man what I wouldn't give to be placed in a sector where I could farm you from.
