I do remember when the attack button was present during a battle, people could still evade the ninja's. Whether you were attacking a base or a fleet there was still a method to evading the "ninjas" as you call them. Being able to evade the ninjas now that was a skill!

Why even call it BATTLE pirates if they make sure all the BATTLE elements are made IMPOSSIBLE.
I was 10 times SPOT ON a fleet who was attacking a friend in sector and in the same millisecond that person came out of battle I locked on to the person (while I already was on place) and still I couldn't get it to enter a battle.
How the f*** are we supposed to help our friends now if all BATTLE elements are taken out of the game with this bad update.
So all people have to do is hit a base and click on move here when they are out. Requires 0 skill for the attacker.
Hitting a base should be more challenging, you should face the risk of being ganked by defending fleets when you get out of the base battle.
Wonder why they removed all the BATTLE elements from this game. Guess they want base attacking to require 0 skill instead of maximum skill.

BP Shooting Galler..hit the mechanical moving duck...lol
All they did by removing this option was give the cheaters and hacker a better chance. When you have roaming clans with 30+ level players all hackers and cheaters and Kix does nothing about it. Kind of kills the game when you have no chance to hit back. Already seen quite a few leave the game. I'll be following. Thanks Kix. Frees up more time to play games that don't cater to cheaters.
This method of hovering over the attack button while a player is attacking a base has been removed because it requires zero skill.
Ummm. Just wow. I'm having trouble getting over just how stunningly ignorant this statement is. It's like you don't even play your own game. (Oh wait, I've seen your videos...)

LOL I had to read it a few times myself. Naziesque.....these games would be good social changes programs in a psyche course..they evolve..they bring out all different personality types...who gives a flying f what people use the key for? As long as they are not using a glitch or a hack it is called the evolution of the game...other players adapt to it. I wonder who was the fist person to figure out you could rapid click and pile your ships on each other for maximum fire and minimal hits....do you think they intended for THAT to happend when they built the game? Not likely...if you watch the early "major battle" videos ships weren't bunching up...but someone figured out that it is the best attack strategy and it caught on....
These clowns need to watch more reality shows if they think "how it was intended" means anything to how people adapt.
ok you like to talk about skill.. what skill is there to attacking miners.. un-maned guard fleets .. Kixeye is so worried about skill why dont they fix that .. oh and maybe stop attackers from hitting weak bases . as a fleet fighter i was able to defend friends. lots of base hitters would come with back-up and fights would take place . now there is no need for the base fleet to have back up. sorry Kixeye your going the wrong way on this i know many left the game and many more will follow . you need ti think things out before you cut off the hand that feeds you!!!

SWAG opened a big can of worms with that "intended" statement and the "no skill" statement. They should have let the game play and watched how it evolved...when you start sterilizing animals to control evolution you end up with freaks.
The real question is: Would you start playing this game as it appears post updates? I had many choices..and no time to play more than one. The thing that appealed to me (over koc or strategems which I also played for more than 8 months each) was the head to head control in battle. KOC allowed you to "send reinforcments...but you never saw battles and were only told the results....Strategems allowed you some control but very limited. That appeal is now over.
Some sectors unite against other sectors. Therefore, we protect 'our' bases by making it as expensive as possible for neighboring foes to hit 'our' bases. Kixeye can't stand the fact that people might actually work together toward a common goal, apparently, and AGAIN fixed something that wasn't broken, while continuing to ignore issues that actually are fubar. Zero skill, eh? Exiting base hitters already had a pretty good chance of escaping. After all, ignoring 5,000 years of naval battle history, Kixeye insists you have to come to a full stop to engage anyone in here, anyway. Now, instead of BATTLE pirates, you have Pirate ****, where you can watch people fight, but not actually fight them yourselves. With the base bubbled, you usually can't lock onto a fleet until they've escaped, laughing at 5 fleets stacked up waiting to kill them. Kixeye, did you REALLY think you needed to make this glitchy game that much more frustrating to attempt to play? For once, admit you didn't think it all through, and restore the ability to actually FIGHT someone. A simple addition of an option to engage/fight fleet rather than only 'view battle' should have been included. Otherwise, you've given the game to the bottom feeders who's only 'skill' is to hit weaker players, driving them to realize the developers really don't give a rat's **** about anything but their bank account, and finding other games to play.
With the new update we introduced Spectator Mode. The new mode replaced the Attack button that was visible when a player clicked on a fleet that was attacking a base. This method was being used to ambush, or ninja, a fleet immediately after it attacked a base.
This method of hovering over the attack button while a player is attacking a base has been removed because it requires zero skill. A player that has finished attacking a base has to wait for the world map to load and close out the battle report screen, while a player attempting to ninja only had to click once to attack. There was no defense against it and required no skill to accomplish.
Players are still welcome to attempt to ambush a player after a base attack, but now the player that was attacking the base will have a fighting chance to escape. In fact we even encourage players to try to ambush other players to see how wicked fast you can be and show off your skillz.
so basically you removed the attack option cuz some peeps and possibly yourself was not skilled enough to get away from battle WOW
You people are worried about how to get those jerks who are sinking miners? Who cares!? Their morons for leaving their own fleets out and walking away from the computer. They get sunk enough times they will learn and look to other way to get res.

If kixeye didn't want people to mine they wouldn't've put mines on the map.
The solution to all this is simple and doesn't even require them to put the "attack fleet" button back. Just put a "guard" button on other people's bases and fleets. We can do all the defending from the front half of the attack instead of the back. Which is the way it ought to be anyway.
edit: why does it keep insisting on putting the word "kixeye" in all caps? I'm not doing that on my end.
so kixeye can i ask you this? are you trying to lose money?
cause now people arnt fighting. we can go,hit a base, and leave and not fight our way out.
so now we can pay you less
or are you gonna make us pay to travel to make up for it.
that may actualy be a better idea than this new update.
I just spectate base and FvF battles now. No battles = no reason to spend coins on repairing fleets. I have been spending more time on one of Kixeye's other games since this new update. I hope that one is run by a totally different group of people and don't go downhill like this one.
There's a difference between "cheap" and "totally unable to defend against". Again, the way it was before required ZERO skill and there should be a small amount of skill involved.
Yea, so how much skill is involved in players raiding our alliance members, jumping out of battle early so they can jump away from any defenders, then running home and having their buddies bubble them so you can't get revenge??
Taking away the attack button only helps those bubble pirates to do even more damage with no reprisals at all!!
If you don't bring back the attack button Kixeye you are going to lose so many people you won't believe it!! I have heard numbers of people say they are about ready to quit playing because now you have little to no chance of keeping folks from hitting your alliance members and neighbors!!
It takes no skill to lock on? Lets see if I have this correct. A lvl 30 player farms a lvl 25 player, where's the skill in that? Also, this makes the Alliance idea moot, why have an Alliance if you can't kill the fleet attacking one of the members? No skill to lock on an attacking fleet??????? I have not been able to lock on fleets that easily because of this stupid lag, maybe one out of 8 times did I get to lock on. So this is about the hi lvl crybabies, this is not about skill. What skill is required to farm a lvl 25 with a fleet of ff's? They will just roll through and mow the base down, that takes skill???????
Heres a question or two for everyone - and be honest
Its addressed to attackers, defenders and "ninjas" alike - not the afk miner hitters, unskilled base rimmers and their ilk.
Has this decision by Kikeye lowered your "addication" level to the game ?
Has the thrill of the game now vained a bit ?
Is the "will i / wont i" get hit buzz gone ?
For me personally - yes - its becoming safe and boring now
and guess what - i dont pay to play boring/ easy games - i want to be continually challenged - and this, for all the supposed exta skillz Kikeye says, simply doesnt do it for me
You ??
Yup... I'm not playing about 50% less... Login collect my res... If I need to research / upg ... go collect that res amt ...
BTW ... not a strong base hitter ... but pretty damned efficient at FvF ( so ... with the increased difficulty of timing that "View Attack" and "Attack Fleet" option switching I've said screw this.
Sad part is... Still have $11 worth of credits... and no place to spend them.
i agree with what you are saying - been saying it all along.
just a minor amendment - you will find it not all the Hi Lv crybabies
I am a high level - amongst te highest in my sector - i like the challenge of having to use my skills to avoid ninjas, face multiple FvF battles not of my choosing, haing massive bustup battles.
if i was fast i had a 50-60% chance of getting away; this particualr bit of the updates gives me 95%+ chance - BORING. No fun.
Its unlikely to be the lower levels that get farmed a lot either - they would like to see their attacker sunk - and they really like the base fleet idea (as do I - the challenge of a base is better now - though i dont use one myself)
Its the rimmers and sneak hitters - those who dont bother with decent builds or learning real tactics and they are not needed for their style of play.
And the afk miner hitters and sub owners.
Ironically - this caters more for the "never-will-pay" players than any other.
Those that think the game unfair to their style of play even though they only conrtribute whining to its growth

Now that's an IDEA sparky....
You see where some jackwipe is going and just before he gets there ... Set your fleet to gaurd the base. Rockin IDEA...
Send them home plumb empty instead of just missing 975k of their loot..... PUt this baby in the wish list.
I've been reading over the past 30 pages and it seems that to me that the underlying quibble is not so much that the ability to ninja is gone but more about having the ability to defend the base of an ally. So what if there was just a different method for assisting a friend who's base is under attack? What would your suggestion be?

SWAG the "underlying quibble" is the death of FVF. Look at your game. There are NO fleet battles going on. People need a way to go to a base under attack and participate. Whether that is from being able to lock into your "friends" base and guard it or fight someone who is at that base...either would accomplish that.

Allow me to guard one of my friend's bases... limit it to one base per person, and maybe one person per base.
That way, if I know that someone is about to get hit who isn't online, I can jump in and PVP the incoming attacker.

this is exactly my complaint. I'm a base hitter these days so getting 12-24 hours of repairs b/c someone caught me at the door exiting a base is certainly no fun. But... not being able to lock onto *any* fleet (base hitter or FvF) until after the battle ends means people can pick and choose their targets/engagements and most aren't looking for a fair fight, just one they can win.
Being able to defend a base would be nice, although people have essentially the same option with bubbling or engaging bases to an attacker can't already. Just removing the base summary pop-up after the end of base battles I think though would provide the majority of base attackers an equal opportunity to escape.
*Edit* - actually, if you would consider reducing the repair times and costs (resources? credits even?) I think it would go a long way to making fleet fighting more viable. Now even if you wanted to send all your fleets out to see how long they last, by the time you're done chances are you barely have enough res to repair your fleets, let alone all the time it will take to actually fix them.
It took skill to avoid getting ninja'd. Besides being very quick on the buttons as you retreated, you needed to be a sneaky pirate to loot in private (ie - send fleets in one direction, draw a crowd, ... while your main base fleet attacked the real target). That was fun.
Now, I just waltz in into the middle of it all, watch them buzz around angry and attack the base unworried. Less skill, but still fun
Swag
i like that you are considering the matter
As for myself, its not the base part i differ with - its the FvF.
I for one like FvF a lot more than bases (although i do bases quite successfully).
I have the full 60 ships - only 5 are designed soley for base work, 10 other are both combat/base based. All others all combat.
And it not that i ninja other people (which i do)- the fun for me was doing one battle and getting ninja'd straight into another - not knowing who/what i was facing
Win or Lose - loved it.

Yes defending a friend's base is one reason to bring it back, the other is as mentioned this pretty much killed FvF battles.
