One way that might work:
1) Provide players with a way to enter map view or launch fleets to map while under attack to avoid 'denial-of-service' type attacks designed to lock them in
2) Require that slightly more damage than can be done with any missile is needed before a dock is inoperable.
3) Add a cooldown: If an attacker quits a base attack before the 5 min is up (but otherwise satisfies rule 4 below), THAT PLAYER is still locked out from attacking that base for the remainder of the five minutes.
4) Keep the 4 attack / hour= DP arrangement with the following proviso:
In order for any base attack to be counted as a DP-inducing attack, it must do AT LEAST 4% damage.
So those 4 attacks in an hour must result in a minimum of 16% base damage before the bubble is given.
This must be cumulative. If I fix the damage from attack 1, then the NEXT attack will be attack 1 for the next damage sequence.
The 10/day DP rule becomes moot, because 4% min x 10 attacks >= 40% damage (which is greater than 25%) will trigger the damage-based DP first.
Seems fair and balanced to me.
A buddy bubble would require a fair bit of damage.
Harassment cannot happen if I can just leave my base at any time.
BullPoo rocket attacks on docks will be more meaningless if I can still launch.
Yes, a concerted effort by multiple attacks/raids will still disable a base for a while, but don't you think that they should?
Imagine the RL equivalent.
Meanwhile, THEIR bases will be vulnerable.
The 5 min cooldown makes it much harder to buddy-bubble them, and they have to take SOME damage first.

Again I tend to wonder who it is that complain about this? The bubble is a means of protection and at certain point if you don't have this then big people can and do go around farming(hitting people repeatedly). I think for some it is needed as they don't have the time to come one every 1-5 hrs and see if they have been attacked. When attacked then the bubble only stays for certain time, the repair does not start till they have clicked and so if they have been attacked from long time eg 12hrs then they have lost this time and the repairs are not done by the time the bubble is gone and this makes it easier for the abusers to go around abusing players. Eg: of this is I go to work 30 min after walken out the door joeblow comes and attacks me, I don't get home for 12 hrs and can't or will not be bothers at work with finding a computer and logging in to risk loosen my job over trying to fix my base. So then I come home have lost 14 hrs repair time and the OP or rocket pad take 12 hrs more then what I have, how do I protect my self from the abuser comen back and doing it all again. I can't can I ? I can't even play the game as they have smashed the dock and so I go to sleep to wake up and do it all again. How or even why would I play at this point ? I can not protect my self or even have friend protect me as my base would be wide open and every time they attack they do more and more damage.
BTW yes some people do abuse it and keep them self bubbled for long periods of time, usually this is done with alt accounts and if so then should be stopped or removed from same sector.
Someone shouldnt have to relocate because you want to be a **** and constantly attack and harass someone else. Thats the whole point of having the DP bubbles in the first place, to prevent griefing from people like that. Just because some people have used the DP bubbles to stop a retaliatory attack doesnt mean that someone else should be harassed.

I agree this is something that needs to be addressed as well. Sort of an Auto repair once the bubble goes up. Some people only check in once a day and by the time they get on their bubble is about to expire and their base is just now starting to repair.
I also see a problem with not being able to move certain labs while they are upgrading. Example..I got hit this morning, they killed my lab that was upgrading. I got a 17 hour bubble and the lab still has 2 days to upgrade (the hit added 18 hours). How can I build a better base or move that lab since it is locked it down? Make it where we can move those labs while they are upgrading like you can the dock.

There are currently several ways that a player’s base can get temporary Damage Protection (a bubble over the base). Two of the ways that you can get Damage Protection is if your base is attacked 4 times in one hour, or 10 times within 24 hours. Unfortunately, players repeatedly “bubbling” each other are abusing this system.
We will be removing the rules of Damage Protection for when a base is attacked 4 times in one hour, or 10 times within 24 hours. Bases will only receive Damage Protection if it has received a certain percentage of damage to the buildings within a certain period of time.
This change will take effect in conjunction with the new Base Patrol Fleet Feature, which should help to prevent any of the possible negative effects of removing these damage protection rules.
well on behalf of sector 479 we love that all the robable base in 480 are now open 24 hours since when i level 2 of there ware house i do less than 5 percent damage
Don't do it, it will destroy play balance in this game and ruin it. Even if a fleet is put inside a base it simply cannot patrol the entire area and attack every fleet that enters the base. Therefore, alliances can harass a base by "stacking" outside of it and hitting it repeatedly in an area where there is no fleet. U don't have to damage anything, just park under the base and wack it with a gb every 30 sec. Even if a player is not tied to watching his base when its attacked, its going to be hard to do anything with an alliance hiding under your base and wacking you every time u move. Removing bubbles will surely lead to bullying and harassment. KIXEYE is just giving in to the base hit bullies on this one and should not.
I've said it b4, if you really want to eliminate the problem of "bubble buddies' simply reduce and randomize the bubble times. If a base is attacked ten times, don't give out a regular, predictable 48 hour bubble time, have it reduced and randomized. This ensures that the players cannot come back at the same time of day, every other day, and bubble themselves. It means they would have to seriously rearrange their schedules. Reducing and randomizing the time also reduces the enthusiasm for doing a 10 hit "bubble dance". Reducing/randomizing the bubble time makes it not as "worth it" to waste time bubbling each other.
For example, one time make the bubble time 9 hours and 38 min, at another time at the same base or at another base, 28 hours and 15 min, so on and so forth with a new time every time a new bubble is gained. This way bubble buddy schedules would be seriously trashed. This would make it more difficult to schedule times to bubble each other. Imagine trying to get your bubble buddy to wake up at 3 am just to bubble you! Imagine a cheater needing to get up at the 3am to do both his bases! Not knowing the return time also discomforts the harassers , which was the intent of the bubble system anyway. Knowing it'll be some time b4 you can come back (and not knowing how long) is enough to get harassers off of ppl's backs.
KIXEYE just has to remember to put a min and a max time on the 10 hit bubble and keep it secret.
If KIXEYE persists with the policy of disallowing bubbles (unless the base is destroyed a certain %) then for God's sake, reduce repair times or extend the amount of time a player is bubbled after such an attack.

bubble boy stop crying......this will only address the issue of friendly "no hit" bubbles.....dp will still come from actual damage done to your base.....you can actually stil get a friendly bubble from the other bubble buddies...only thing.....youlle have to take some damage...delay some research...or if your plats will have to be destroyed meaning the bubbler will have to take some damage to fleet and cost to repair.....as for harassers....my personal opinion ....why would they waist time to harass someone instead of doing something productive.....my guesse you smack talk on coms.....sink mining fleets....take a few steps back.....take a good look at your own action....take a look at the big picture....and play accordingly.....
I think the Goliath is pretty call it a potty....and it will flush your little poo ship!!!!
stfu Dog of Snore. YOU don't know me nor have we had combat. You don't know what I do idiot, so stop projecting. I don't bubble my base. I do however see the need to have it after ten hits and no damage. If u and all your ilk weren't such morons you'd understand that the ability to hit a base repeatedly is by definition harassment and ppl WILL quit the game if it isn't fun.
you want to get rid of buddy bubbles, that's fine.
here is a solution.
allow other people to defend as well as attack a base.
This will up fvf battling, and kixeye makes its money on fleet repairs. It also puts your base in the hands of your alliance, sector, and friends instead of kixeye.
Koc has an option to join alliances, this should be introduced in battle pirates as well.
The biggest problem i see with removing bubbles is this, it takes forever to fix a base after being hit. I get home from work at 6 pm, and it takes well over 6 hours to repair my base. People have now got it down where they hit your base, and only give a 24 hr bubble, meanwhile taking out the vital buildings. I will not pay to play the game, i spend money on fleet repairs and speeding up build times.
I disagree Joshua, your own alliance can be as tyrannical as any enemy. Why force ppl to enter an alliance just to protect their base? Who wants to play a game to be told what to do by some loser in RL but the big fish in sector (insert sector here) just because he's the leader of some alliance in that sector? You'll never be able to relocate enough to get away from that kind of tyranny once the need for a formal alliance system is established.

so to defend your base on your terms and a time of your choice would be the correct way of playing the game?
let me school you on how the human mind works in connection with battle pirates.....battle pirates have mainly two motivations a: res b: dominance/bullying if you would like to call it that.........a base would be repeatedly hit if it was an easy hit for res......or b die base in question was that of someone who has done something to aggravate the aggressor......
so situation: you get hit by a much stronger player you have three choices...
a:hit back nuking his dock or sinking fleets
b:make sure your res level is low when your bubble pops and start spending something on defense to make it harder
c:continue playing as usual
if you chose
a:the other player would stamp down his dominance
b:would hit....see you have no res.....weights that damage to fleet not worth pay off.....
c:hit you again for res and farm you
now clearly by definition you see a and c as harassment.....
and currently bubble buddies have option d: harrass others and hide in a bubble
so.....sorry for projecting bubble buddie....
but you dig your own grave and i call it like i see it.....
I think the Goliath is pretty call it a potty....and it will flush your little poo ship!!!!
Call it like you see it? Then may I project on you? You're getting pwned by "bubble buddies" and can't hit back. WAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! So What? Build a better base. I did and now I don't have to hide in a bubble. I can trash ppl right from my base, and, usually, hit them anyway, there are ways to mess with bubble buddies if you just watch them and know how to play the game.
But rest assured, if KIXEYE does change the bubble system I WILL use it to bully and harass morons like you. Why? Because I AM A BULLY.
I just think the game will be short lived once the changes are made and I'll have to go somewhere else to pwn ppl. I like the game and don't want to leave, I finally have a challenging game where I can't own ppl all the time. Please come to sector 207 so I can bully YOU. As you have assured everyone you won't run and hide from me and my friends. You have to be at least lvl 27 so we can hit you however. Just calling it like I see it.

lol......point proven...ive aggravated you so you want to beat my base down now......im a level 28(yup just out of the dark levels of 25 to 27)......so yeah you could.....but this is not the time and place to issue challenges......it still baffles me if you play the way you say that you defend friendly bubbles with so much anger.....but yeah anyway......im done with this conversation....you surely haven't had enough real life xp to at least be able to handle what happens in a game.
Ps: im in 232 so you can come to my sect....and no i dont do friendly bubbles....
I think the Goliath is pretty call it a potty....and it will flush your little poo ship!!!!
So much anger? Yeah I respond with vigor to ppl that do not debate my points in an adult way but resort to personal attacks based on their own biased non-factual views of my situation. I think that bubble buddies are frustrating, I know I've been thwarted lately on revenge attacks, (but then I didn't get much damage anyway so I shrug and move on to other victims).
But the way I see it, the only way my friends and I can be touched is if the bubble system is changed in such a way as to allow bottom feeders to hit our bases every 30 secs. It'll ruin the game for us and force us to retaliate. So then what do we have? A bunch of ppl running around mega hitting each others bases. That'll be as boring as salvage hunts all freaking day. I can see us running ppl out of the sector and eventually out of the game because we are A**holes and just won't quit once we can stab the knife in and keep twisting.
By definition, its harassment to be able to attack someone with impunity, one does NOT need to inflict damage to harass an opponent to such an extent that he cannot play the game.
"But the way I see it, the only way my friends and I can be touched is if the bubble system is changed in such a way as to allow bottom feeders to hit our bases every 30 secs."
yup completely unfounded me calling you a bubble boy...and completely childish....cheers cup cake
I think the Goliath is pretty call it a potty....and it will flush your little poo ship!!!!
Look The Only Issue is that IF you're An A-Hole And In A Sector Where There's An Alliance what's to stop someone from NUKING your dock every hour thereby Keeping you from playing unless you can afford to coin repairs (yeah I know it's less than a dollar for a fully destroyed dock but not everyone has that lousy dollar or the have a limited amount of them to spend on a FB game ) so yeah Harassment and the ability to keep people from advancing in the game is going to make many quit if they don't have a way to protect themselves. It's not the mid-levels that bother me though it's the **** level 30's that don't want to get retaliated against.

It does not force people into an alliance. many people from same sec try to defend base hits, regardless of alliances. I dont see where you get a forced hand to alliances. alliance groups hunt in packs now as it is, strength in numbers is not new.
dock repair times should be adjusted along with this rule change. period. otherwise people will simply grief players out of the game by constantly demolishing docks with rockets (a tactic for which there is NO defense) I've said it before and I'll say it again, the dock repair time should = the trading post repair time, kix eye will not allow acess to their money source to be dropped for long, why should the access to my fleets and ability to play be allowed to be hampered?
ship repair already keeps me down long enough, but to be barred from even viewing fleets or starting repairs for 4hr stretches as my dock 10 fixes is ludicrous.
If playing Battle Pirates taught me anything, it's:
You can please some people most of the time, and you can please most people some of the time, but you will never, ever be able to keep those bitchy little whiners who inhabit yours forums from having a cry about every single thing you ever do (or don't do).
If this has the effect I think it will Kixeye will effectively drive off a massive portion of it's player base. I don't know what the percentages are sector to sector but in my sector I'd make an estimate that 90% of the players are farmville players. They like to mine and at most hit a salvo but most would even prefer to follow someone else around cleaning up after their salvo hits. They setup no in sector hit rules and rely on the other 10% to enforce them. They FREAK if they get hit in sector or out sector and lose anything they farmed. The whining that goes on is insufferable. I see dead bases in the 20-25s constantly now that some politics have shifted the balance in the next sector over. I think Kixeye needs to study the impact this is going to have by doing 10 sectors first and seeing what the fallout is like before implement this change game wide and destroying this game over it. All I can say is good luck if you push this through...
kixeye i suggest u do somthin u have already done with one of ur other games backyard monsters.....u can hit 3 levels below and can attack anyone higher than u. people over 3 levels above u if u hit them they have 24 hours to hit ur base as they see fit when the 24 hour time period is up they cannot attack that player unless he attacks them agian.... this would keep the lower levels from getting farmed and keep the higher levels happy.
If youare going to disolve this feature then you need to do something to help the players out.My suggestion, upgrade time, research and repair time is freakin insane.Playing this game should'nt feel like a second fulltime job.Taking this feature away hurts everyone,i can see the abuse but if you didnt have 10 days upgrade time and 10 days research time then peopel wouldnt need to abuse that.I can see 5 day research and upgrade time, but come on 14 days to build a ship. This has to stop somewhere we have lives outside this game to,and i know im not the only player that feels this way.So allim asking is come to some sort of compromise, get rid of the bubble feature, give us shorter build, upgrade and research time.

KIXEYE just has to remember to put a min and a max time on the 10 hit bubble and keep it secret.
bubble boy stop crying......this will only address the issue of friendly "no hit" bubbles.....dp will still come from actual damage done to your base.....you can actually stil get a friendly bubble from the other bubble buddies...only thing.....youlle have to take some damage...delay some research...or if your plats will have to be destroyed meaning the bubbler will have to take some damage to fleet and cost to repair.....as for harassers....my personal opinion ....why would they waist time to harass someone instead of doing something productive.....my guesse you smack talk on coms.....sink mining fleets....take a few steps back.....take a good look at your own action....take a look at the big picture....and play accordingly.....
this is the correct answer!
so to defend your base on your terms and a time of your choice would be the correct way of playing the game?
let me school you on how the human mind works in connection with battle pirates.....battle pirates have mainly two motivations a: res b: dominance/bullying if you would like to call it that.........a base would be repeatedly hit if it was an easy hit for res......or b die base in question was that of someone who has done something to aggravate the aggressor......
so situation: you get hit by a much stronger player you have three choices...
a:hit back nuking his dock or sinking fleets
b:make sure your res level is low when your bubble pops and start spending something on defense to make it harder
c:continue playing as usual
if you chose
a:the other player would stamp down his dominance
b:would hit....see you have no res.....weights that damage to fleet not worth pay off.....
c:hit you again for res and farm you
now clearly by definition you see a and c as harassment.....
and currently bubble buddies have option d: harrass others and hide in a bubble
so.....sorry for projecting bubble buddie....
but you dig your own grave and i call it like i see it.....
By definition, its harassment to be able to attack someone with impunity, one does NOT need to inflict damage to harass an opponent to such an extent that he cannot play the game.
yup completely unfounded me calling you a bubble boy...and completely childish....cheers cup cake
It does not force people into an alliance. many people from same sec try to defend base hits, regardless of alliances. I dont see where you get a forced hand to alliances. alliance groups hunt in packs now as it is, strength in numbers is not new.
ship repair already keeps me down long enough, but to be barred from even viewing fleets or starting repairs for 4hr stretches as my dock 10 fixes is ludicrous.

Commie world here we come.
Let's have a game wide vote on this decision and upcoming.
Or are fears mounting of a defunct bankrupt KIKEYE.
