KIXEYE should create a floating bunker where the fleet can go and repair after it has fended off the attacking party.
Auto protect, and auto repair.
If no auto repair then add to base damage protection, otherwise it will cause other problems... one player to kill outside guard fleet... one player to take out inside auto guard fleet.... one player to take out base defense.... one player to take out base.... Or one player and his five level 32 alts.
And if our base fleet kills the other guy's fleet, I want his res to repair my ships. Yep, you try to take my base, I kill you, take your res... and you spend additional res in your pitiful effort to take out my base.

i like the idea of having a base patrol fleet,it's gonne be like backyard monster and i extremlye like that feature....i hope you guys are gonna put this feature into the game,battle pirates....looking towards more new<3
I think it's a very interesting idea. My only concern is if players can choose where the ships are and what they are. In that case, a player could simply stick 5 dreads next to his/her OP, and nothing would ever get through.
However, if there is a weight limit and players cannot choose where the ships go, I'm all for it

I enjoy playing this game but this really bugs me.. Why are you guys always put something out and not explain whats going to happen.. Why sit here and have 35 pages to read thru about players speculating what they thing is going to happen.. Really, How about more info : Would it kill you guys just to come out and say it.. " you have to use one of your 10 fleets" So you are saying any ship combo you want can put in as a Base Defender, sounds to me.... Wow! Over 340 posts, and almost half of them asking about the base attack time limit and whether the fleet is tethered. Yes, that is a bit exaggerated, but I can't help but think it would have taken me half the time to get through all of this if people would have read everything first instead of just posting the same couple of questions over and over. Okay, now I'll stop ranting about that.
When I read the OP, I thought, "Wow, this could be a lot of fun." As I read all the responses, I ended up with mixed emotions. Perhaps this does tip the scales a bit much towards base defense. Then again, many of the bases I've come across in game really do need all the help they can get, and then some. In the end, I'm not specifically for or against the idea. I'm interested to see how it plays out.
Regardless, here are the thoughts I had while reading through all of this:
The option of using a base patrol fleet [from this point on, I will use BPF] does not mean you have to use one. Bluntly, you are not required to have towers to defend your base (although it is highly recommended). By the same token, you are not required to assign a BPF. I think this needs to be kept in mind for all of the issues that follow.
The BPF does need to count towards the total durability/damage of the base. Currently, if I only use 7 towers instead of 14, then less total damage is needed before a 'bubble' occurs. Likewise, if I have assigned a BPF, more total damage should be needed for a 'bubble'.
I am not certain that the duration of a base attack needs to be increased. The idea in this thread seems to be that multiple attacks will be required regardless, so staying at 5 minutes per attack might be fine. If the duration is increased, it certainly should not be doubled. Ten minutes is an eternity for a base attack, even with a BPF. Also, if a player does not assign a BPF, then the time limit for attacking that base should still be 5 minutes.
I don't like the idea of weight or hull restrictions on the BPF. I do think a battleship or dreadnaught BPF could make it extremely difficult to beat a base, which would unbalance the game. However, if you start restricting the types of hulls allowed, how do you determine the 'fair' place to draw the line? I will readily concede that this is a tricky point to figure out.
I like the fact that this feature gives players a bit more flexibility in how they level up. Focusing solely on base defense research will no longer be the only possible way to have decent base defenses while leveling up. Researching those neat ship-based toys can also help in defending the base.
I do think this will raise additional issues regarding the duration of damage protection for a base. The repair time for the fleet after the repair of the dock needs to be taken into account. It seems reasonable to me that repair of the BPF commences as soon as the dock repair completes. Why should a player have to start repairs, write down the time that the dock repair completes, then come back at that point to start repairing another part of their base defenses?

A BPF is a terrible idea. I am a level 32 player with dreds. Right now I mostly attack players level 30 or higher. I can get into most bases currently with my current fleet, but generally finish the battle with about 5% of fleet life remaining. If there is a BPF, bases higher than level 30 will become impossible to get into. I will then farm level 27-29 players which isn't really a fair fight for them.

Tricky yeah maybe BUT IMO limiting it to only Forsaken Hulls is as close to fair as this idea can get.
how about limitations by lvl wouldnt be that tricky to figure out and would balance someone who bought the largest ships they could with player of their lvl
either that or half the weight restriction of your dock that way the defending fleet is only half as good as the attacking fleet and is a piece of the bases defence not the main part

I dont think it will make much of a difference if bubble buddies is gone.... You can enter kill flts and squash base with another. I dont think this will earn you anymore credits kixeye...... if they are offline easy kill if they are online no different then a regular hit.....

id have to say sfb 3 hh with either assault or cutlass 3/4 mix fleet on guard and any base is safe and if ya can just park the fleet throughout the channel
and i am for limiting it to just forsaken hulls cause a dread sfb 3 fleet in a base and the base would take forever to get in and not worth the loses u would take
Yep just do what the rest of the higher level players do and attack us lower levels all the time....they are scared to attack ones there own level because they cant beat them....so they keep lower level players down....makes them feel like a big dog....

Good question. The profitable approach would be to introduce a new type of dock, for the defending fleet. You would have to level it up, like any other structure, and the level of the defending dock would determine how big a defending fleet you would have. That would also allow you to place the defenders where needed, without endangering your normal dock.
Maybe Kixeye could show some creativity on the defending dock -- it sounds like a great idea, I think one of the biggest weaknesses in the game is that if I'm on-line when my base is attacked, I can do next to nothing to defend it. Allowing me to direct a defending fleet is really going to make things much more fun.
At least I assume I'll be able to direct it, if on-line? It would massively suck if the defending fleet only operated on auto-pilot.
One thing is pretty certain, you'll see the rules for good base design change so as to optimize placement of things. This is good.
this way who pay $ will pay more & who wait for repears will wait more & only hackers will not have any problem with these new changes

And how is this really any different than putting a fleet outside? Base hitters will just send in a prep fleet to clear the fleet inside then retreat, just like they do now with clearing outside defenders. Even if you put them in the center of the base, they can easily be kited from the outside.
another reason i decided this could be horrible idea...
1. i build a FF fleet with all Antimortars on them lol (extra effective against fleet mortars) i put them in my channel and then mortar fleets dont get in base at all (or very hard)
2. i could put assault missile HHs in my channel and thats all that much more fire power on the enemy while they attempt too get into base.
Great another fleet to build that's not going to be worth crap. personally I think being able to lay prosimity mines around our bases and in the channels would have more of an impact that afleet that can be trashed in a few seconds.

I say we...I seldom attack bases, I don't generally like PvP...but when I do, it's either for revenge, or it's an EASY easy base
ONLY allow Players lvl 30 and BELOW.. By lvl 31 you should have all DU4's and all lvl 4 towers..
NOTE: Only way this is going to work is if ships are place and ENTRANCE of BASE.. NOT by Buildings or in Channel....
Bases will be to difficult to get in... It will be great for the lower Lvls, to help out if they can have an extra set of PM's or Cutlass ships helping out with dmg.. but not for the Higher lvls... or only allow Merc fleet...
