I am a lvl 28 player in BPirates. I take the recent updates as a legitimate attempt to make this game more fair. I have several suggestions that I think you should consider if you wish this game to be more exciting. I understand that this is a business, and when it comes to strategy games, keeping your costumers is key. I can tell you that the game works well from lvl 5 to 21-22. But after this point, the game becomes pretty boring (and ill explain why:)
1) The game is designed for bottom feeding. Large players attack people below them. After level 28, levelling up becomes so slow, that people with ALL the tier 3 draconian weapons are only level 31-32. This makes players 26-27 who have just developed leviathans in range from players with hammerhead boats. The stacking system allows players vastly too strong to be in range of these smaller players.
2) With proper base designs, these larger players are basically invincible. I agree with the change that 4 attacks in 1hour, or 10 attacks in 24 hour bubbles should be removed. This is a system that has obviously been abused. But i suggest one more change.
If there is a single lvl 29 player (player X). Lets say he attacks everyone around him, and makes everyone angry. Even if many many players lvl 25-30 want to do something to this player, it is basically impossible. No player around the same size can crack his base. So everyone just complains and hopes someone "HUGE" moves into the sector to help defend them. As a Level 28 player, there is nothing for me to do until I get to lvl 33 and have all the tier3 weapons, to stop player X. Under such a system most people will quit the game, as there is little they can do to player X.
I suggest this:
Allow player X to be attacked by multiple players as a team
Allow lets say 5-10 level 25 players to try and beat the player X. His defences are superior, but many players IF given reason should be able to break his base.
In order for this to work, Player X, may have to take 75% damage from players 5-4 levels below him before he bubbles.
Player X, may take 60% damage from players 2-3 levels below him.
And Player X, may take up to 40% damage from players equal in level or below him
But for players bottom feeding, they should only be able to attack bases with 10% or less damaged bases.
What i suggest is a system whereby if given a cause, MANY weak players may break someone larger if they use many rockets, sacrifice many fleets etc.
When such retaliation is denied, most players will quit. Also this will require much more repairing, many more rockets, more teamwork attacks. Bottom line increased playing and increase spending of money. Thus more business for BPirates, so these changes improve gameplay and improve your profits.
Think about a system like this please.
Something along these lines was suggested in the following thread months ago in June 2011 to allow some meaningful attacks on higher level players before bubbles kick in. Think the suggestions to change the bubble rules for higher level players were ignored and bigger siege weapons and range boosters were introduced instead. http://forums.kixeye.com/threads/67077-Bubble-Trouble?p=540561&viewfull=1#post540561
This will prevent people from changing their base designs without the repercussion of losing alot of resources. If your going to implement this then prevent from attacking bases when the person is offline. Buddy bubbles are used for several reasons not just hiding from being attacked. People should not have to buy a bubble just to change their base. I purpose a change to the Damage Protection mechanic 0-25% 18 hour bubble, 26-45% damage 24 hour bubble, 46-65% damage 36 hour bubble, 66% and up 2 day bubble and that would include the inbase fleet.
well i am level 32 not spend eny coin on game and removed all my res building like i dont need them eny longer so this will give me all labs and tower 46 too 65 prosent damage 36 houer bub?????
I am very glad to hear about this change. However, we will need one more thing. A "base organizer".
We will need a better way to change base layouts, ideally something like the backyard organizer from BYM.
Also it will hopefully make all the changes at once when you click on "Change Layout" or whatever it would be labeled.
This would be a pressing need as changing layouts in the current system leaves you exposed and vulnerable without a bubble.
For those of you who say that you can change layouts with your damage protection after your base is destroyed, the launch pad takes onger to repair than you get for damage protection, so you will be out of protection before you could rearrange.
this just opens the game for the CC players unless u use the alliance factor of allowing more than one fleet from ur alliance to attack and defend a base. the CC players would still have an advantage yes but it would even the playing field alittle
About time!!!!!!!!! I went through to get to level 31 with no buddy bubbles, every bubble I have got was earned so it can be done. The buddy bubbles where nice in the point that these idiots got to a higher level without knowing how to accually protect their stuff so if they are without a bubble it means easy farm. If you go out and hit a base but can't take the heat from getting hit back it means you suck at everything!!!!! I keep seeing in the topic that people are saying this helps out the hackers, WHAT? How can you think this helps hackers at all? That is such an asinine statement.
If this was brought up in a previous thread, and people opted for different weapons, that only helps the massive players.
Trust me SFB3, and better siege weapons (tier 3 dracs) do NOT help anyone but lvl 33 players.
I am in a sector now where lets say there is ONE lvl 30 player that in-sector attacks everyone.
Everyone would kill him, if they could do anything, but they cannot. There is one lvl 33 player that can attack him, and that is it.
Basically I could do the same thing, at lvl 28. Attack everyone, and my base is invincible as well. To all lvl 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 players that do not have tier 3 mortars, I'm invincible.
You would think that if 20 players wanted me dead, they should be allowed to do that. Allow multiple attacks on bigger players, do NOT allow multiple attacks by bigger players on smaller players.
This will add a massive amount of fun to the game.
Just so you know, i still think it would take about 5-7 lvl 26-27 players with leviathans to break my lvl 28 base (platform 3's). This should be fair if I am an "evil" player needing a beat down.
The answer cannot be "play for 6 months to tech up to everything", most players will simply quit the game.
I'll be honest, i consider quitting now because i can kill no one with a good base design, and none of them can kill me... So what is there to do?
gonna kill the game unless they limit higher lvl some as far as the 5 below rule ,,i'm almost lvl 32 ,,my wife and son are both 27 , n 28 ,,our neighboring sec ,,only hits 5 below ,,they use it to get upgrades done uninterrupted ,,soon as they have du4 they will be strong enough to keep the lvl 31plus out ,,,or at least stand a chance why not make a cool down after base attacks ,,,ya hit a base ,,,no bubble for couple hrs without damage would eliminate main reason for **** here ,,seems like alot of the reason for complaints is the guy that hits yer base ,,has a bubble before he crosses border back to their sec ,,,for me ,,at 31 ,,don't see much of a challenge out of a lvl 26 ,,,but do have a lil bit of a fight out of a lvl 29 ,,,wanna make it more challenging ,,or keep the pansies chasin the lil guys out of the game
i like it, but know that your now get the bigger bullies guys flattening the smaller ones more often and therefore making them quit.. also could be seen as another way for the makers to make money as you can buy bubbles.. there are better things that need fixing
I think it would be good to put a limit on how many times one player can attack another players base in a week or 7 day period. After quota of hits regardless of damage the attack button would no longer be there. (just like if it was bubbled). Also I think it would be a good idea if the base was bubbled if the dock gets damaged and base is unable to defend. It should be bubbled while it is in repair. But this idea is not without fault. People could find ways to abuse this and stay bubbled I think, and if the dock was placed in the front of channel it could bubble and no chance to have prep, or even on scout if you enter and hit the dock by mistake it would suck. These were just a couple idea's i was throwing around. Have a good day Swag ,
thanks for your time, KCc
Cheer now but my bet is 90 days after this change kixeye will be shutting down more then half of the servers.
Research and build times are already excessive and expensive. Now people can just come visiting and cause even more days delay?
That is assuming you can ever collect enough resources in the first place.
All that will be left are the pay to play and the people Kixeye pays to attack them.
SWAG
I thought of another good idea, just like the base invaders, u cant retreat, if u attack a base that is full health with a fleet guarding in it, it should lock u in the base attack until the inside guarding fleet is killed, that way we dont have people just coming in and looking at bases all the time, they have to fight or die.
There are currently several ways that a players base can get temporary Damage Protection (a bubble over the base). Two of the ways that you can get Damage Protection is if your base is attacked 4 times in one hour, or 10 times within 24 hours. Unfortunately, players repeatedly bubbling each other are abusing this system.
We will be removing the rules of Damage Protection for when a base is attacked 4 times in one hour, or 10 times within 24 hours. Bases will only receive Damage Protection if it has received a certain percentage of damage to the buildings within a certain period of time.
This change will take effect in conjunction with the new Base Patrol Fleet Feature, which should help to prevent any of the possible negative effects of removing these damage protection rules.

WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT ALLOWING MULTIPLE SMALLER PLAYERS TO TRY TO TAKE DOWN THE BIGGER PLAYERS? (Multiple attacks allowed to have more damage to a big player from smaller players)
Thanks for all the feedback so far, it's been a great read.
I do want to address one concern at this point. Damage Protection was not created with the intention that friends would indefinitely keep each other bubbled. The term "bubble buddies" really should not exist. Battle Pirates is designed to be an interactive experience with other players and hiding under what is essentially a permanent bubble is not interaction.
Since the current bubble protection system is soon to be history ....
Why spend any money if you cannot protect what you have bought or trying to build / upgrade ?
I like how my posts are deleted.....once again kixeye has found a way to seperate the haves from the have nots... now instead of your allaince helping you out when a LARGE lvl 30+ hits you and your a level 25.... they cant do a quick bubble to allow you to repair fleets...whats the use of calling it a social game, when you can no longer be social and have help of base protection from your freinds... now its time for kixeye to make some real money... so get ready to buy those bubbles and speedups on the researches...ONCE again people wondered why people hacked, and if you delete this message kixeye.. i will consider it a violation of YOUR terms of service and agreement, as I have the RIGHT to express my opinion, so long as I am not running your name through the mud and degrading you. THIS used to be a great game, but obviously, if you spend money on your game you have ALOT more leeway that those who dont... I AM a coiner, but the more you screw with the game.. the less money I WANT to spend

well just make the dock repair time just the same as shipyard2 10 min

Now with that being said, every game including console games, have this "issue" if you will. For those who by advancements they should be able to have the upper hand, more so with free to play games. Ive been playing games for 10+ years and this is a gaming norm not something to whine about. What I don't get is why are you complaining if your a "coiner" yourself?
First off, this new forum section is awesome, hats off to Kixeye for this.
The death of the buddy bubble era is long overdue.
This is an MMO, there will constantly be changes made to keep it interesting and flip flop balance issues. All you can do is roll with the punches.
In the past 3 months there have been so many people complaining about the "buddy bubble" system then there have been people asking to keep it the same, Kixeye is giving it's public what the majority of it asked for. AWESOME!!!
Can't wait to see once all the changes are made, this is going to be fun. Base patrol fleet, the ability to watch someone else's base or fleet battle, and no more "buddy bubbles".
Great Idea!!!
Only concern is ....dose this release the dreaded pirate bullies?? "Piss me off now and I will continually hit your base 24/7 and not let you play at all ...till you quit ." This dose give someone the power to spam fleets at your base and not let you even launch fleets. If I'm wrong then no worries....but this needs to be checked first! Down with the bubble huggers and push onward!!!!
I am not complaning.. I am pointing it out as an obvious difference.. the game timers are skeewed enough to where if you really want to advance you have to pratically pay to play... its no longer ftp, but now a ptp game...
also since this is happening with the bubbles, are u all shortening the research and upgrade time, all i know if im upgrading something and i get hitm it adds 2 days to it, and if that is that case and u all are keeping it the same, u will loose alot of players due to bullying! including alot of players that i know.. may include myself, honestly u should leave it the way it is, there will be alot of poeple coming in now and using there rocket on peoples docks as well, if u get 10 guys to drop a rocket on a dock, well there screwed, that would be wrong
Thanks for all the feedback so far, it's been a great read.

How about keeping the damage protection thing and to eliminate the eternal bubble buddy problem allow a time out before another bubble is allowed. 1-2hrs restriction on bubbling after a base attack starting from the first base you hit. When this times out allow buddy bubble. If you are in a 2day or higher paid for bubble you must wait 12hrs before a new bubble is allowed. Would be a fair way to provide protection and allow for retaliation attacks. Why break something that works, just fix it to make it work fairer.
All in all, this is a great idea yes. HOWEVER it does have its drawback. Me personally, I could care less if I have a bubble anymore. But what about the mid level players that say upgrade their advanced lab to 10 round 27-28. That would turn 14 days for an upgrade into 30+ in the worst case scenario. I know at that point I would say f u and leave the game. If you are going to do this to these players then at least have the decency to not set back upgrade times. This is not a good way to promote business (Business Admin Major fyi). Another thing to think about, no where near all of us have a fortune we could spend on the game. I admit I am a coiner, but only for raid and repairs when the sector or a friend needs help, no more, no less. The vast majority have bills to pay, gas to buy, families, so why make it to where these mid level players are forced to buy bubble, gets rather expensive after awhile. This is a great game don't get me wrong, just don't want to see no more dead bases than there already is out there. Now one item I do agree with that was mentioned, is the ability not to bubble after making a base hit, thats just **** if you ask me lol. Have a time limit to where they can not get bubbled(friendly) for at least 12 hours after attack on a base.
There are currently several ways that a players base can get temporary Damage Protection (a bubble over the base). Two of the ways that you can get Damage Protection is if your base is attacked 4 times in one hour, or 10 times within 24 hours. Umm no... This would make it possible for people to attack your base, retreat, attack your base, retreat, attack your base, retreat..... Thus making you not able to play, you cannot enter your base long enough to deploy a guard... Hello look back to the reasons why this was instated. Yes I can understand getting rid of the 10 hit bubble thing, The one hour bubble for 4 hits should remain but should be altered, 4 hits from any players will throw up a 1hr bubble, that way someone with many friends cannot just hit you 3 times, switch person, hit you 3 times and so on. Not having this feature can be abused just as bad and 10x more of a burden then having it..
Seriously... Kixeye, I know you are looking for solutions for people having bubble buddies, but your idea opens way more annoying things then someone being bubbled.
(I admit I did not read every single post in this thread, so I may be saying things others have already said).
Bubbles are not the problem; abuse of the rules regarding bubbles are the problem. You do not need to remove the bubbles but need to modify the rules. Why not set a timer similar to the merc deployment (BTW, when are you going to fix that bug?!!) Allow a "free" 10 hit bubble once every week and set a damage assessment as part of the timer. If the base receives over 50% damage then the timer resets. Also, prohibit someone who just hit a base from receiving any kind of a "free bubble" for 12 hrs. Again, if their base receives enough damage to cause a "damage" bubble then the timer resets. Or, is there a way to check if the player hitting the base is a facebook "friend". If they are, then modify the length of the bubble accordingly. There are times when a far superior player (lvl 31 player with dreads) is about to attack an inferior base (lvl 26 - 28 base) and the only way to keep it from being flattened is to bubble it. In nearly ever case, this is a medium sized player's base.
As for the 1 hr bubble, I thought that was to prohibit one person from repeatedly attacking a base and picking it a part piece by piece. It would seem right to tie a damage assessment to this 1 hr bubble as well. Perhaps an accumulative (same player) damage percentage. 25% is too high for this though as that will already give an 18 hr bubble. Perhaps something like a cumulative 15% damage by same player will give a 1 hr bubble. Especially if the Base Patrol Fleet does not count towards the total base destruction percentage. This would hopefully keep players from repeatedly sniping bases without fear of causing a bubble.
As for rearranging one's base, the last time I did so, it took me between 2-3 hrs to complete (op5). (This really needs to be made easier, like providing a storage area or something because moving all those stupid one segment walls 2-3 times from one side of the screen to the other is a royal pain.) Also, if you maintain the "cannot move while repairing or upgrading" feature, then when will someone be able to rearrange their base (lvl 4 turrets = 6+ hrs repair, launch pad w/ rocket is how many hours, and upgrading higher level buildings takes how many days...)? Oh, set a guard fleet you say? Great, so now your base is in pieces with the back door wide open and you're having to launch fleets in order to prevent the inevitable. AND, if they do get to your base, it is toast without them receiving any damage. Yeah, that sounds very fair... to the attackers. Even now, when the largest of players find someone redesigning their base in the way you suggest Swag, they all say the same thing (if they are honest,) "Why didn't they get a bubble?" Again, allow someone to gain a temporary bubble like once a week so they can make changes but make it so they are unable to "live" in their bubble.
Umm no... This would make it possible for people to attack your base, retreat, attack your base, retreat, attack your base, retreat..... Thus making you not able to play, you cannot enter your base long enough to deploy a guard... Hello look back to the reasons why this was instated. Seriously... Kixeye, I know you are looking for solutions for people having bubble buddies, but your idea opens way more annoying things then someone being bubbled.
Lol I can actually imagine this happening. If there is a person/group in a sector on this 'sos' thing the sector police have going on, it would be pretty easy to keep them locked in their base with CONSTANT base hitting. Someone hits your base and stays inside for 5 minutes, then they attack again for 5 minutes. Can't launch fleet, can't do anything but sit and watch the ship chilling in your sea. I'm pretty sure that's enough to make people stop playing. I guess the only way around this is if Kixeye allow the 'map' button to be enable during base attack, and to launch a fleet - even if you can't guard while being attacked you can kill the fleet keeping you under lockdown when they retreat from your base.

But after this point, the game becomes pretty boring (and ill explain why
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT ALLOWING MULTIPLE SMALLER PLAYERS TO TRY TO TAKE DOWN THE BIGGER PLAYERS? (Multiple attacks allowed to have more damage to a big player from smaller players)
Why spend any money if you cannot protect what you have bought or trying to build / upgrade ?
well just make the dock repair time just the same as shipyard2 10 min
Now with that being said, every game including console games, have this "issue" if you will. For those who by advancements they should be able to have the upper hand, more so with free to play games. Ive been playing games for 10+ years and this is a gaming norm not something to whine about. What I don't get is why are you complaining if your a "coiner" yourself?
i agree right here they will ether non stop sniper your dock or bunkerbust it

The death of the buddy bubble era is long overdue.
This is an MMO, there will constantly be changes made to keep it interesting and flip flop balance issues. All you can do is roll with the punches.
In the past 3 months there have been so many people complaining about the "buddy bubble" system then there have been people asking to keep it the same, Kixeye is giving it's public what the majority of it asked for. AWESOME!!!
Can't wait to see once all the changes are made, this is going to be fun. Base patrol fleet, the ability to watch someone else's base or fleet battle, and no more "buddy bubbles".
I'm almost excited over this game again.

Then why does Kixeye sell 30 day bubbles?
