Greetings, Captains. The 9.14 update is deploying Tuesday, April 2nd at ~2:00 PM PDT. This update contains the new Battle Report feature, the 2019 Defense Update, and several campaigns. While we don’t anticipate many adjustments will need to be made, if any at all, we are temporarily removing the ‘tax’ on refits to make it significantly less costly to do any refits players choose to do following the Defense Update.


BATTLE REPORT

When you conclude a battle, you will now first see the Battle Report popup. This screen allows you to see the damage you took, resisted, or evaded, by its type; it also displays a breakdown of the damage your enemy took, resisted, or evaded (which is likely to be more useful in PvP than PvE).

If you are regularly being defeated by a specific damage type, adjust your build accordingly. Knowledge is power!

Note: This can be disabled in your options menu under “Battle Breakdown”. Disabling this will stop the Battle Report from popping up after every battle, but you can still access this screen by clicking the button in the upper left corner of the end-of-battle summary.



2019 DEFENSE UPDATE

A major health update is coming to Battle Pirates, which we hope will increase the clarity of our stats and how they interact with one another. An overview of the specifics that are changing has been released by our lead designer and can be read HERE. It includes a link to a complete changelog. We do not recommend trying to parse the entire changelog. Use the writeup by WrongThinker to understand the changes, then if you have a question about a specific item, use the FIND command in the changelog to see its details.


TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF REFIT TAX

While we do not anticipate that any changes will need to be made to your builds following the update, the team is temporarily removing the refit tax that is up to 20% of total time for all components. This means there is no penalty for removing weapons, specials, or any components. This will not impact equipping a new component to an empty slot, but will lower your costs when  removing or swapping of components on an already equipped slot.

Again, we do not anticipate that any changes will need to be made. The team has tuned in a way that should necessitate no refits, and should only mean improvements in consistency for the upcoming April Raid.

This discount will be reverted in the next update.


HALF OFF REPAIRS (48 HOURS)

For the first 48 hours after the Tuesday update, we will be turning on half repairs. This will allow everyone to take your hulls out for a spin following the Defense Update and have lower experimentation costs while you familiarize yourself with the new system, as well as any additional refits you’ve done to take advantage of the temporary removal of the refit tax.


NO MORE STAT DOUBLING

As part of the Defense Update, we removed the stat block mechanic that visually doubled certain stats. This mechanic did NOT double the stats’ functionality, so this is a visual change only, and you should not be concerned if certain weapon stats appear to have been halved in your stat block.



MARCH FORSAKEN MISSION (WEEK 3)

By player request, an additional Armor for the Nemesis X and Saturn (Folded Ferrite Armor F1-COM) has been added to the March Forsaken Mission in week 3!

    If your fleet was on the world map at the time of the update, it will appear to be damaged. The health of the fleet went up and it just needs to Dock to correct this.

    We will be granting a free 24h fleet repair token to all users that logged into the game in the last 30 days, in case anyone is still experiencing damaged fleets as a result of the update in a way that is not solely visual.

    We are attempting to gift this in a way that overflows the token count, to ensure that someone who is already at the max limit for that token still receives the gift.

    We are going to temporarily disable Battle Replays as part of our diagnosis work for the "Unable to Join Combat" issue that some players are experiencing.

    • FM targets have received difficulty adjustments last night to be in line with the defense update and expectations for damage
    • Campaigns have received difficulty adjustments last night to be in line with the defense update and expectations for damage
    • SSRBs are now being tuned down. Our data shows that these are primarily more difficult on the Skirmish hulls. If there are non-skirmish hulls you feel you are having trouble with, please let us know.
    • PvE and PvP hulls not fully being siloed is something we are working on, but will require engineering work and so will be done in a future update.
    • Turret Dmg Specials not adding values to stat blocks is a bug that will be fixed in a future update.

    Other items of note are going to be addressed by WrongThinker shortly. Note that hulls designed entirely for splash damage are likely going to be less effective, but any concerns about Specials being nerfed for turret defense should be mindful that all power lost was transferred directly to the hull. Keep an eye out for WT's post later on.
