A MESSAGE FROM H.M. KERES THE VIIth
------------------------------------------

This is Keres VII of the Iron Star Company, ally to the Rebellion.

We have successfully retrieved the second document from the VEGA cache. This one appears to contain more sensitive—and more disturbing—information about the Blood Amber experiments themselves.

Once again, the key code is likely encoded within the document itself. Since this is a top security document, there may be multiple steps involved, but I expect your outstanding decryption skills will be more than adequate.

I will authorize another reward for the first to deliver the unencrypted document, the password and the methodology used.

Efforts will continue to retrieve the rest of the cache. I will notify you as soon as we have more to work with.

    I can open this on my phone, and it's ancient. PDF is a very popular format, there should be a way for every phone to access it.

    What kind of phone do you have that can't read PDF's?  I opened it on my iPhone right in iBooks, no Adobe needed.  I think just about every smartphone I've owned in the last decade could read PDF's.

    Idk..it might be because I don't have the right app for it. What app should I install, if I need one, to open it?

    I tried to open it on my Galaxy Tab S2 (running Marshmallow), but it won't let me. It saves as a .bin file. It appears as a PDF in the notifications, but Adobe isn't opening it. Perhaps it's because the pathway from the forums (powered by Vanilla), it causes the file to be different? I can easily open it on my PC, after saving it.

    It's my issue and I need to figure it out, but pdf on my phone is opened by hancom office viewer. It is fine with pdf off the web, but it wont even recognize these are in the same folder on my phone.

    It is viewable on my iPhone. I don't know about other phones. Just no idea how to figure it out. Lol. Any hints? @CM LXC

    It has a password when i try to open in ibooks on iphone

    My guess was that the strings at the end of the file were base64 characters; ran them through an online decoder, then tried to put that string into a text to image decoder.  Came up with errors.  So dead end there.  I was hoping that it would translate into a very simple image of the password. 

    Anyway, that was my methodology and maybe you can work from there.  I'm coming from an artist background with very little programming experience, but googling bits of the set helped lead me to my attempt.  Hope it helps you out!

    For those who can't open the PDF, here's a screencap of the "code text" in question.  Of course, if you can't open the PDF then I don't know how you're going to enter the password for the second file, but if you're working from your phone and want a leg up before you get to a desktop computer, maybe this will help.

    Better than what I got.  I only got errors.  Can you post what you got (maybe after the contest is over)?  I'm curious!
