Both are correct, it's the VEGA Corp. that we fight on VEGA Conflict
There is no evidence in any of the lore that I have seen that the VEGA in VEGA Corporation is an acronym.
at 20 seconds it says V.E.G.A.... the star is not an acronym for anything so it is a little wierd to think it doesnt stand for something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvONTdaeSFc

That video- when apocrypha cruisers were styled by batman...
Another related question- at first everything talked about the 'VEGA Corporation' but recently it's been the 'VEGA Federation'. Has the government of Earth (or New Earth, or whatever, since I remember early posts on the lore front mentioning two planet Earths, and that the original one was badly damaged hence space mining to get stuff to fix it) decided to step in and sort out the mess, or has the VEGA Corporation bought over the government (which is more likely)? I don't like ambiguities; I have my own story-thing to write too, and these details matter!
Vega Conflict-er since closed beta phase 1, back when torpedo harriers ruled the sector. BP- started in the black sea days, then the game died... WC- started pre-World Map, then everything went downhill.

So, here's what we know,
VEGA is in charge of mining this sector (and others)
There is an Old Earth, suggesting that humanity has set up an interplanetary government somewhere else (New Earth maybe)
Something happened at Beta Persei involving "Them" and Blood Amber
Blood Amber is more valuable to VEGA than the AM/He/Min that we build stuff with
VEGA keep increasing production quotas (Which led to the miner rebellion)
The last message sector command received was an old one that simply stated that more res was needed
Vorzer (Head of VSec (Possibly former)) was transferred from Beta Persei after the "Incident" and his court-martial
The VEGA Corporation established the VEGA Mining Outer Operations to contract us to gather the res in this sector generations ago
Majority of people were born here and have not even see Old Earth
No reason is given for the standing orders of mine it and ship it home
VEGA, aka, V.E.G.A Corporation is the multi-planetary, quasi-governmental organization that oversees most aspects of interstellar mining. It is the largest corporation headquartered on Earth, even out-earning/spending most other nations and governments. While not the United Nations, its governing body is made up of individual representatives of member-states, similar to what OPEC was back in the late 20th and 21st centuries. It's sole purpose is to control, through its cartel-like structure, the exploration and exploitation of interstellar resources.
VEGA gets its name from is origins, yet one has to go back to over 150 years of near solar-system exploration to understand it fully. The first off-world expeditions of the late 2070s-'80s to Venus produced the first large, economically-viable deposits of H3. Around the same time as the first resource shipments started to come in from Venus, Dr. Alian's expedition to the Asteroid Belt proved that humans could survive the harsh and dangerous environment of deep-space vacuum and still send back profitable shipments from the large ore deposits that, to this day, can still be found. But is wasn't until the advent of interstellar, faster-than-light travel that opened up space to mankind.
When the United Nations founded its first foray into deep space, the "Embolden Mission", the deep-space construction and launch facility on Ganymede was built. Dedicated in 2093, it enabled mankind's first experiences outside the solar system. A total of 5 ships (of a planned 12) were completed and launched with all-volunteer crews, most of which consisted of families. Unfortunately, the hostilities of the Moon Revolt of 2095 caused that the Ganymede Station was all but ignored for the better part of a quarter-century.
The lack of supplies from Earth, and the general lack of interest in inter-planetary travel brought on by the draconian travel and import/export bans necessary to quell the Moon colonists from spreading their sedition, forced the families and settlers marooned on Ganymede to look outward for support.
A tentative mission to reach one of the 5 ships that had left the solar system was embarked upon. It was anticipated that it was then-inbound for Sol, and an attempt was made to intercept it. Sub-space communications were, at the day, spotty at best, so it was presumed that the in-bound ship had no knowledge of the Moon Revolt nor of Earth's crackdown. The Ganymede survivors scuttled together the Attoly in a desperate, patch-work attempt to build something space-worthy.
The interception was successful, and the decision of the in-bound Herecles was to wait out the conflict in deep space. This proved to be a pivotal point in the formation of what would eventually become VEGA. A solar storm knocked out most the Herecles' hydroponics, forcing a re-think of their strategy. It was resolved that the Herecles would travel to Venus to enlist help there and that the Attoly would separate and head for the asteroid belt to enlist the miners there. At the same time, the Verusha, another of the original 5 out-bound ships, was found limping home after an un-documented encounter with a strange alien armada wielding enormously-powerful weapons. They were barely alive, and the decision was made to allow the Verusha to continue on to Earth, albeit surrepticiously, in order to ascertain the situation involving the Revolt and ensuing conflict. History now proves that the Verusha was tasked with making contact with with space-friendly individuals and especially, corporations. This it did, under the very nose of UNSEC.
Documents drafted at the time of the emergence of this early alliance show that these men and women weren't politically motivated at all, they just wanted to explore (and in most cases, exploit) deep space. The Venus Earth Ganymede Asteroid Belt Cooperative Alliance began as most businesses do, with simple filings with the local government authorities. This is something that happens everyday, so no real interest was given to the incorporation. What the government couldn't know, and wouldn't for another 34 years, was the vast resources that it had at its disposal. In addition to the raw materials that it had virtual sole access to, it had the only ships that could reasonably explore and exploit these resources.
The Alliance (as it was known in the early days) wisely diversified its imports and logistical supply-train by routing it through literally hundreds of subsidiary, dummy corporations and partnerships. Historians today, still haven't fully unraveled the myriad of sub-corporations that the Alliance used to shield its true wealth from the tax collectors. By the time that UNTAX began to suspect, the Alliance's holdings were measured in the quintillions of credits, when all taken account together. By this time, the Alliance had moved out to the stars, making it effectively beyond Earth's control.
Earth, of course, was still reveling in its seeming victory over the Moon Revolt, and was not about to let a bunch of "miners", so they thought, to escape paying taxes. The UN again took it upon itself to police the stars, this time sending a fleet of ships against the Alliance. As has already been noted, the UN had no idea of the vastness of the resources that the Alliance had been accumulating, nor that it had begun earnestly building its own fleet of ships, investing in new technologies and scientific discoveries, and seeding the planets upon which it had staked claim.
So when the UN attacked the deep space collection station in orbit around the Vega star system, they thought they were attacking the entire entity. What they didn't count on was the early-warning from affiliated companies on Earth (who stood to lose much more if the Alliance were to fall). This gave the Alliance time to recall all its ships to the area, and muster (from its burgeoning off-world settlers) a significant ground-attack force.
The UNSEC forces never really stood a chance, and to ensure that they would never be attacked again, the Alliance pressed the decimated UN fleet all the way back to earth orbit, where it forced the UN to recognize it as a quasi-governmental organization, free from all taxation and regulation of its activities off-world. It's only concession was to allow its headquarters to be established on Earth, where the UN ostensibly could keep an eye on it.
So from the accords signed ending the conflict, the VEGA Corporation became established by UN mandate - yet remained entirely outside of its control. The Alliance reorganized itself using the first letters of the 4 primary members: Venus, Earth, Ganymede and the Asteroid-belt coop. The fact that the UN's defeat had begun in orbit around Vega, was, happenstance, but one the newly-formed VEGA would use to forever remind Earth that children eventually grow up and leave home.
Vagabond Earth Governmental Alliance (if in the case of the Earth being destroyed, and we are an autonomous collective operating beyond the bounds of the Solar System with limited outside interference).
Vanguard Expanse, Gulf Alliance (if in the case that the Earth and Solar System is intact, but we are an advanced mining, military and exploration arm that is otherwise divorced from our home, but operating semi-autonomously).
Burning all your bridges means that sooner or later you're alone on an island, bereft of allies or means to get anywhere. Seek to build bridges in all things, treat even your opponents with respect. Crush them only when there is no other recourse and they hinder your movement forward.
VEGA doesn't stand for anything. The acronym thing was just a distraction. "Vega" is a fairly widely-used sci-fi word and possibly relates to an actual star somewhere in space, or possibly a galaxy...
On a related note, though: when did the "Vega Corporation" become the "Vega Federation" as it has been referred to recently (and possibly in the introductory video)? It was definitely the VEGA corporation in the past, certainly during closed beta, but now it seems to have changed.
Vega Conflict-er since closed beta phase 1, back when torpedo harriers ruled the sector. BP- started in the black sea days, then the game died... WC- started pre-World Map, then everything went downhill.
We had family in Vega and they betrayed shortly after the expantion into space. Hence oure presence here. We have been parasites leaching there ore. They got mad and started retaliateing. Hence the beginning of the Vega conflict. My question is WTF IS THE ALIEN ARTIFACT?! Shurely a race so advance they created an antimatter magnet wouldn't just die. And if there still alive where are they?
