What about a game that bridges the gap between Vega Conflict, Battle Pirates, and War Commander. How about a game where like the battle in pacific, but spreads the entire globe you have the beach landings, then you get the land bases, and as you capture and island that has a navel station you can dock repair and refit your ships there, and then you can transport supplies through space but those can be intercepted and a space battle begins. As a game to look at that is similar go look at Dust 514 for the Ps3 its a ground based game with support from EVE online on the pc which is space based
