How is shield energy usage calculated?

How exactly does the damage get calculated with shields? well more specifically, how is the shield energy used while mitigating damage.

e.g. say a pulse laser hits a deflector-2 shield for 100 dmg.
energy defense 60%
projectile defense 80%
explosive defense 60%
energy 300

I know some damage gets through and damages the amor while the shields are still up.

is it:
1) the shield catches 60%, so 40 points amor dmg, the shield loses 60 energy? (total 100)
2) 40 points armor dmg, 100 shield energy used? (shield loses full 100 energy for dmg)
3) 40 armor points, 40 shield energy (shield energy usage also reduced to 40% of dmg)
4) 40 points divided between shield energy and some portion going to armor?
5) something else?

I would like to think that option 1 is correct, but it is entirely possible Kixeye did the math as option 2. Pretty sure the other options are not used.

Get in an FvF with a person who wants to know this as well and get hit by one shot.  See what happens.

If it's not option 1, then I would really want to know what is going on at Kixeye.

    its something else

using spectral shields and getting hit with projectiles ends up causing damge to the armor after about 25% shield drainage

possible a combination of options 1 and 2

some one from kixeye should comment so we actually know

the sheild catches 100% of the damage, and the percentages are based on what goes off of the armor, as soon as shield is destroyed, so are the effects of the sheild, based on your example the answer is #2

#2 and your answer are not the same. At least not the way you conveyed it.

I have seen ships where the shields are NOT 100% damaged and the armor is being damaged. This means that the armor is affected BEFORE the fall of the shields. The question is, of the % that gets through, does that mean that the shields are NOT absorbing it? (such as #1 - shield takes <100% and armor takes 100% - shield) or is it that the shields take 100% and the backlash of the shield action causes armor to simultaneously quake? (such as #2 - shield takes 100% and armor takes 100% - shield)

yes, it is clear that armor takes damage while shields are up.

so i would think that its likely 1 or 2, with the ships armor taking damage according to what the shield doesnt reduce. but the still unanswered question is if the shield loses energy according to the full amount of what it gets hit with(1) or just the portion that is reduced from hitting the armor(2).

could a kixeye employee please clarify which one it is. this makes significant differences in shield energy usage.
