Does it only come down to chance? When the emails are being selected, do they put other factors such as, how long you've been a member, posts, how long you've played etc... into account?

I kinda figured. When I first posted this thread, this was a top-level forum with nothing in it. Now I see it's a sub-forum under KIXEYE.com with all the old speculation threads in it.
Here's hoping for BP in space. A space setting can justify a lot of things people **** about in BP. Justify a flat base layout: the skies are covered by incredibly powerful weapons, forcing a trench attack> Retreating in the middle of an attack? Overloaded your shields so you can break through those upper defenses; since it's imprecise you can't use it to jump in or hop over land. Replace subs with stealth ships (possible change: stealthed ships are still damaged by splash weapons going off near them, and if detected can be hit with acc weapons, but with a large evade boost).
In addition to armor ship could have a shield slot that provides a small pool of regenerating HP; you could choose between different shields that have different effects; for example, in the same tier you could have one shield that provides more defense but regenerates slower and another that provides little defense but comes back rapidly when not taking damage. Ships would enter each fight with full shields, but shields would be capped at starting health (to prevent 1hp shenanigans), and stealth ships cannot have shields (if you could have both, it would likely be impossible to kill them; you'd have to burn through their shields again each time they uncloaked, preventing you from hitting their hull very hard). Shields could work in one of the following ways:
-Bonus HP: The shield provides a decent chunk of HP that are damaged first, and recharge with time.
-Damage absorb: The shield still has HP, but instead of being damaged first, it reduces incoming damage then passes the rest on. For example, a shield would reduce an incoming damage packet by 10, pass the rest on to the hull, then the shield would loose 10 HP.
-Damage reduction: Similar to absorb, but the shield reduced damage by a percentage, then takes damage. In this case, the shield might not have normal HP, and have a more abstract means of reducing in effectiveness. In the former case, the shield could, for example, reduce an incoming damage packet by 10%, taking that 10% as damage to the shield, then pass the rest on to the hull. For both this and the previous type, there could be shields that are more effective against certain damage types (reducing damage from one type more than the other), with the side effect that the shield will be drained faster (absorbing 15 damage from a hit instead of 10 will deal more damage to the shields, and less to the hull)
Weapons would fill the same roles as in BP, with a 4 classes, each either long or short range, splash or accuracy based.
Missiles remain missiles
Mortars are replaced with howitzers, which act nearly identically, except they fly (slowly) in a straight line (no arcs in space).
Ballistics could remain ballistic or be replaced with lasers.
Rockets would be replaced with short-range auto-cannon firing explosive shells (similar to the D35-S which people have been using instead of rockets until recently anyway) or with plasma weapons. (or you could be lame and keep the rockets like they are in BP)
The four resources would be:
Metal: This is raw, bulk metals used for structural aplications, such as Fe, Ti and DU. This is provided by Mines which are built in the low ground (to be closer to the center of the asteroid).
Minerals: This is refines trace elements needed for advanced technology, such as Ag, Au, Os, Ir, etc.
Energy: This is power for the base, collected by solar arrays (this is used as a stored resource like BP, not a constant supply like in WC)
Gas: This is fusable gasses, used to provide power and thrust for ships, along with other high power applications. Includes H and He, gathered from stellar wind by large electro-magnetic nets.
Mods=Gods. I'd like to see some serious feedback, though.

None of those factors would play a part in a selection process. They just go through the emails and send a coded out.

The Closed Beta is a very important period of the game, and as such we'll be releasing codes in a very specific way. I don't think we'll be simply posting them on the forums like a preview server. I would advise you to keep your eyes open to any news, and I'm not saying it won't happen, but I don't have info for you on how these will be released yet.
What I can tell you is that VEGA Conflict is awesome and you will get to play it-- if not in Closed Beta, shortly thereafter when it goes live!
Sorry if it has been posted before. I looked and the only info on Vega's release I saw was sometime in March. Any more specific Info would be awesome.
The supposed March release was/is actually fake and was not put up by kixeye they have stated, so we don't really know anything about when it will be open beta.
