    The first update in a very long while I don't really see a problem with. Being able to go 2 plus sectors either way is nice and opens up a lot of fun for all.
    The level structure is actually helpful because it defines rookie levels more accurately. Thought my heart goes out to lvl 40-60. haha sinky sinky for you. (I'll be a lvl 48 once it flips over LOL)

    Have to give Kixeye a pat on the back for once for this idea. First good one I have seen in a very long while.

    Under this current new plan, yes, you are correct!

    doesent this mean you "cheat" lower bases like current 30 out of easy targets?? they will end up whit nothing to hit or am i wrong??

    sounds about right all they can hit is their lvl or above so they dont learn to do any hitting for a wile

    Greetings Captains! We received lots of good feedback for the proposed new level system and attack ranges post. Again, the goal of updating the player level system is to provide a more accurate representation of each player's experience and power. It's great to see so many players giving constructive feedback on the game. We've taken your feedback into account and now have a new and updated system for attack rules in conjunction with the new player level system.

    Attack Distance Modification
    A lot of you were concerned over the number of attackable targets within your Level range. This is a valid concern and when we broke this down further we found that a related area of the game, attack distance, also played a key role in providing good targets. So we've decided to scrap the 850 max distance attack rule and replace it with a +/- 2 Sector rule. The 850 attack distance penalized players who were at the top or bottom edge of a Sector and also stopped a full Sector from participating in Sector wars. The new +/- 2 Sector attack rule means that all players in a Sector will be able to attack up to 2 Sectors up in either direction. This increases the number of valid targets and sets the stage for even larger Sector vs Sector wars.

    TL;DR:
    • The 850 max distance for attacking rule is being removed
    • A new +/- 2 Sector attack rule is being added

    Updated Attack Ranges
    Along with the new distance rules described above, we're updating the attack range rules to further increase the number of valid targets, especially for high level players. The +/- 5 Level range is remaining, but would no longer apply to players level 40 and above (currently level 29).

    Attack Range Summary (note all Levels are the new Levels):
    • Attack range remains at +/- 5 Levels up to Level 39.
    • Players Level 40 and above can be attacked by any player Level 40 and above.
    • Note, Levels 40-44 can still attack/be attacked by Levels 35-39 due to the +/- 5 rule still in effect for those lower Levels.
    • FYI, Current Level 30 will be Level 40 in the new system
    Combining the new attack ranges above with the new Sector distance range we get the following number of estimated valid targets for these levels:
    • Level 10 has 1200 targets
    • Level 20 has 840 targets
    • Level 30 has 630 targets
    • Level 40 has 420 targets
    • Level 50 has 220 targets
    By uncapping the attack range at Level 40 we triple the number of targets for Level 50+ players from 220 to 640. (Please note: for those interested in the math, we did not use the full +/- 5 Sectors' worth of data here; just +/- 1.5 Sectors' worth to be conservative.)

    In all cases above Level 10, this represents an increase in the number of valid attackable targets over the existing Battle Pirates system.


    Player Level
    The proposed Level system for player Levels is unchanged from the last post. We feel that as long as there are sufficient opportunity for players to attack other players, the new Level system is correct. For reference here it is:

    Under Level 18 stays the same, then:

    19 => 20
    20 => 21
    21 => 23
    22 => 25
    23 => 26
    24 => 28
    25 => 31
    26 => 33
    27 => 35
    28 => 37
    29 => 40
    30 => 43
    31 => 45
    32 => 48
    33 => 51
    34 => 55
    35 => 59
    36 => 65
    37 => 71
    38 => 78
    39 => 87

With a slow fleet it takes 20-29mins of travel , now ur asking us to travel for over an hour to hit some targets???? What planet are you on.     Just curious, how does the +/-2 attack sectors work for sector 1 or sector 500? Will sector 500 be able to attack sector 1,2?
    A long long time ago I started BP on 5/11 in Sector 364 !

    Im srry..but i still thinks its a bad idea...Ure taking away the fun for the higher levels....

    I give an example..at my lvl and I am a 34 atm..I can only hit 33/34/35...in the new system...

    This sucks for me..u have 2 compensate for the bigger levels..When we fight eachother we are looking at repair times off 20 hrs(dread fleet)and for other fleets it ill be at least 10 hrs..

    Now if i attack a 35 base i wont get enough res 2 cover the repairs..and the time will kill me in this case..then ill have to take out salvages 2 get res and fight again in 3 days when my fleets are repaired..Then yes im bad i will hit a 29 base for the easy res..srry 29 thats the game..WE ALL BIN THERE..

    I really think kixeye is going for the gold now...U want GOLD..then give something back that we can use the gold..

    LEAVE THE OLD SYSTEM AS IT IS..

    I do like the new changes but think the cap should be raised to lvl 32 before you can hit any level above and not be at level 29. These level 29's will become farms and not enjoy being levelled by a level 36/37

    once u hit lvl 40. it's a free for all game. no +/- 5 rule. so you can hit anyone 29 or above.

    a lvl 28 is less than lvl 40 on the new system. a level 30 (43 on new system) cannot hit him.

    Where does it say this in the first post ? The way it reads is a current level 29 who under the new scheme becomes a 40 cant hit anyone lower, meaning a level 29 will be kinda screwed... I dont see the +-2 rule for anyone 40+

    You can always relocate to a sector where there are more targets for you to hit.

    ok, if i understand this correctly under the new system i will be a 51(current 33) and if i apply the = - 5 rule this means i can hit 46 and up which if you use the conversion chart means there will effectively be a 1 down limit to who i can hit. please Swag explain to my simple dumbass how this equates to more targets available? effectively now i would be able to hit 1 down and unlimited up and there are not very many 34s and up anywhere near my sector. travel 2 sectors over to get my **** handed to by a current 35 or higher. no thanks. that would be a waste of 2 hours.

    you took FvF out of game with attack button and now you will do away with base hitting, what pray tell is left? salvaging? pffft. all this does is protect weaklings from attack and they learn nothing about base design or defense.

    they can fix that with the following:
    levels 39-42 have +/- 3 rule
    lvls 43 have -5 allowed, and the + is unlimited

    otherwise 29s can only hit 29+

    i don't get it. you are a 35. there is no +/- 5 rule applies to lvl 59. which means u can hit 29+ (40+) on the new system

    It would be +/- 5 for the new system. We are trying to even things out. If you are currently a 28 and you hit a 26, it might be a chore but you're most likely going to win, which seems pretty fair. But if you hit a 23, it's pretty much no contest; that is what we want to change.

    how dose this translate into high level terms?

    i.e: level 30+.
    Warrior_Angel...level 30...sector 491...my base location:294174,72
    BI 5: winner of strike cruiser...BI 6: winner of HH-A

    The only thing this changes for you, if you are a high level player, is hitting bases so low that you have no business hitting them. What's the phrase... try picking on someone your own size?

    Well, shoot, guess nobody will look at my first post (http://forums.kixeye.com/showthread.php?t=251468&p=2229924&viewfull=1#post2229924) and answer the question I have seen several people ask, so let's try again in a new post:

    .... You need to clarify whether or not people below new level 40 (e.g. level 39) can attack people above level 40 without the higher level person being allowed to retaliate. That sort of asymmetry would be bad. People should not be allowed to attack people who are prohibited under the rules from responding.

    For clarification: Level 35-39 can still attack +5 levels, Level 40-44 can still attack -5 levels.

    Not a fair comment - Kixeye have listened and implemented an idea based on customer feedback - well done Swag and Co.

    The 'fair game if you're lvl 30+ rule' was posted by someone in the original thread - can't remember who but well done fella. Gonna be some long sails if we can now travel two sectors but i guess that hull3 just became useful again :)

    This addresses my main concern of having available targets. My new concern is how far will I have to travel to scout/attack said target? Hell a base fleet may already take 30 min to go the 850... I know there is some new tech out there...

    I think the premise that a 34 is too high to attack a 32 is silly!

    So in the new system i will be level 55 soon....level 34 in a minute. So How many targets do I have? And this sector traveling will you reduce traveling time? Since it takes 25 min to go to another sector sometimes?
    I dont see the relevance in this change, sorry to say!?
    Why is this change take place?
    There will not as I see be any more targets for me if I dont travel for half a day to come there and see them buddy bubble.....Thats also an aspect you have to take in here!!
    If I have to travel 50 minuter roundtrip for a hit...and see them buddybubble...well then the game is just to boring.

    I dont like the change at all, keep it as it is at let the new players leanr the hard way as we have done.

    I am glad that you have listened to your loyal players and these new structures are great.
    It was looking there for a moment that for us players above lvl 34 would have had tofind another game to play for a few months to let other players catch us up so we could then play again.
    Now this way it looks like we are going to have more fun in the game again yeah, so i know look forward to these changes and i thank you for listening to us .

    I like the getting rid of the distance restriction, but do not like changing base levels, no need to change that at all. As for changing the +/- 5 for upper level players its been that way from day one keep it that way. Make the dam woosie lower levels to get there bases up. I miss the good old days when it was fun and took talent. Now its Gadget pirates "Lame".

    Just to Highlight this part for some folks for some folks still not getting it

    Overall it doesnt seem bad and I was pretty pissed by the original idea so thats saying something.
    My only issue as other as have pointed out is travel time. Traveling 1.5 hrs to play 5 minutes then travel back 1.5 hrs seems a bit excessive to say the least. Perhaps a speed multiplier based on distance?
    (example) is x <850 speed = 1
    x=/>850 but <1100 speed = 1.5
    x =/>1100 but <1400 speed = 2

    Just some randoms numbers I threw out but you get the idea.
    Now if only we can get a 2nd shipyard/drydock...

    So you give me more targets by opening up +/- 2 sectors. Good deal now are you going to increase the map speeds of all ships so I will get to two sectors over in less then the hour plus it would take now??

    I'm guessing the tactical lab module for map speed increase is what will make +/- 2 sectors away viable. Otherwise you might die of boredom trying to get there.

    I'm liking what I'm seeing, though.
