They should restrict it to friends being able to view battles. Why should good players who have spent ages honing their skills at battles suddenly have their tactics revealed to anyone????

Personally as long as there is no additional degration in lag I think this is a great idea.

Come on guys if they are within 5 levels of you they can see your base lay out with just a gunboat, if they are not within 5 levels why are you worried. But I would think it great to come online and be told how someone broke my base whilst I was offline or to be able to tell a friend where his base failed. Would make for a lot more improvements in the game.

Fleet battles I wouldn't even bother watching, anyone that is good at the game knows that one tactic won't win every FvF battle and you need to adapt dependent on what the other player has in his fleet. The only advantage I see here is being able to see how damaged the enemy fleet is when you are waiting for them outside the battle.

The announcement feature I think is really bad, if a sector works well they will spot an attack and respond, but having the system do it for them means no one needs to be so attentive anymore.

how about having a replay option..so when your base gets attacked when you are offline you can view it when you are online?
i think that would be really helpful in fixing flaws in your base.

The spectator ability will be great as this can also be used to mentor smaller players on their strategies as well as the ability to see how the "big" guns do it too. I dont think I am overly keen on the battle announcement in proximity to your base as this will then give sector alliances a heads up that it is happening, even when they are a little slack and not particularly watching.

All these changes sound great but I feel they are just notes taken from their last 420 smoking session. They forgot to mention the most important detail.... WHEN?????

They are great ideas but I hope it happens a whole lot faster than attacking Draconian bases!

There is currently no way for a 3rd party to view a battle in progress.

We will be implementing a feature that allows any player to view a “Fleet VS Fleet” or “Fleet VS Base” battle. Any player can use the mouse to click on a battle and view the battle as a spectator only (cannot participate in battle). Spectators will not be able to view submerged submarines.

There will also a feature that announces when battles are taking place near your base in the Comm (chat window). This feature can be easily disabled if you do not want to receive battle notifications.

As Battle Pirates is a Massively Multiplayer Online game, we feel this will greatly enhance the effect of being an open-world game. The game has a strong emphasis on competition, so it only makes sense to grant anyone the ability to view players competing with each other.

Sounds fun i'd love to see people attacking in bases without them needing to record it.

Question: Can you view battles in other sectors?

Duct tape can fix a great many things, but i doubt it can fix that question

And Socialism comes to Battle Pirates. Got a great base? Now you'll have to let anyone copy it for free, without putting any work in themselves, and without any loss. Great FvF tactics? You have to share! After all, why should anyone get ownership to anything they've worked/ paid for, without sharing it with everyone else?

i think this feature is going to be awesome, but you should set it up to were we can only see our friends battle and only our friends can see ours, i think this will keep it balanced :D

Now if only we could archive the battle videos from within the game...

Don't know if this is in the thread yet but this could add another feature to the game. You can have 2 players battling and the winner gets a prize, and the size of that prize is determined by how many people watched that battle.

I love this. You can now see what the foe has on his fleets so you know what fleet to send in.

If a couple of guys are having a battle & there are spectators this would be great,
But what happens if half the sector want to look in & it then starts to lag which is
often the case anyway even without spectators ...

Would require too much server space...ask your friends to record it once this feature is out

For those of us that are offline when we are attacked, can we view the attack(s) that occurred on our base to better improve our base?

Got a great base now? Sure, tell everyone and post pics up for people to see and they can copy it for free! But do they? Nope. They like their own design ideas better. Even the ones who start out making a copy will add tweaks to it depending on what turrets they have.

Got great FvF tactics now? Sure, show people videos of your fleets in action, and they can make the exact same fleets and do the exact same thing for free. But do they? No. It takes a long time to make ships, and they like their own configuration ideas better.

In short, nobody wants to steal your ideas. They have their own.

i think if they want to see my fleets they should battle me not peek to see what kind of fleet to send at the one i am batling with, then what is the purpose of the flag ship showing on the map & having the unkown until attacked, may as well show all the ships in the fleet on the map of every one as it floats by. same thing, " hey i have skimmer & DN FF HH battle ship in other slots" well i guess i dont want to hit that with my Levi's.... :P

It should be only with permission by the player in the attack. I may not want "JOE BLOW" to see me battle.

    How about:
an opt in / out toggle?

If I want to hide my battles from the unwashed mob, I can, or let them see it if I choose.

Restricting it to alliance partners would be handy too.

At first, I was happy with this idea, but then, after reading some, I agree with the fact that it should be controlled by the attacker... No reason a waiting player should be able to see what weapons you are using and be able to send an appropriate counter fleet.

Great Idea, Modifications to this idea could include but not limited to:

1: Make it where a player can decide if someone can join spectate mode on their battles. IE On/Off switch.
1a: Some players want people to learn their techniques and everything the hard way.
1b: When many people try to connect to the same battle, players on slower connection speeds would be forced to deal with lag when someone joins. (Proven with the Base Invaders Event, My lag was 0 when I went solo on a Draconian Outpost, Each extra player that joined the lag got worse and worse)

2: I am not in favor of the alert system when someone is attacked around you.
2a: As it is already, even when attacking an offline base (where a player cant yell in comms for help) There are already tons of people that will be waiting outside to get a cheap-shot at your fleet, this would make that problem 10x worse.
2b: Not having this system adds a nice aspect to the game, People having to be alert of their surroundings. A Pirate that is not alert of their surroundings is a dead pirate.

i think it is an okay idea, however, i feel that if you are hitting an enemy's fleet, their friends can view what type of weapons/ ships your using and send a fleet over to combat that better
