How to make a good defense setup

  1. Let your tower ranges overlap. If enemies destroy one tower, when they start moving they will be toast. Plus if you have a few high level towers, while enemies are attacking, 2 or more towers will be attacking them back.
  2. Keep your power plants safer than resource producers. If a power plant gets knocked down, your defenses could have a lot less damage.
  3. Always be doing something so you have a very slim amount of resources. Enemies will be less likely to attack if you only have around 10 thousand resources.Always Upgrade the blocks not only because they're expensive, but they sort of help defend your base.

    1 and 2 are right, but 3 isn't, I'd just bait 'em out and easily kill them with some flamies :p The army needs to be spread out, to make it less baitable.
    and another thing: Keep your gun turrets more inside your base, so they are harder to outrange.

    Granted I haven't done much attacking on actual players, but I've found that taking out the Gun and Mortar turrets when they are side by side is much harder than when they are spread out. Mortars go down easy to air attack, Gun goes down semi easy to ground blitz, but put then together and they really compliment each other, add a few flamers to cover the close range and they are a down right pain in the a$$. One thing I would say to NOT do is use tanks for defense, they are easily baited by a single fast moving runner and taken out by air support. I literally just took out 6 tanks while attacking a real newb without losing a single bar of health(I almost felt bad for him, then I remembered that he attacked me first which was the only reason I bothered to attack him :P)

    I was just worried about splash damage so that's why I said to spread them out.

    No defense is now considered good thanks to the rocket buggy and copter drones/cobras ability to snipe turrets. The best defense now is the best offense. Strike first. Defending now is impossible against human players

    The best defense is a GREAT offense. My rivals rarely can attack me because I watch them all the time and once I see them building up some kind of force, I neutralize it. I don't level their city, just take out their units so they don't get the convenience of protection AND they lose their ability to attack me.

    That depends on the level turrets you have and the level of rocket buggy/helicopters. I agree it is difficult to defend but with the right layout it can still be done with a certain degree of efficiency.

    Effective......but,

    Rocket buggies can snipe and can be produced very fast. A devoted attacker just needs riflemen for baiting and flamethrowers for unit killing for fast and easy destruction of base. Note that riflemen and flamers can be produced instantly, while buggies need to wait for more than a minute or two for being sped up.

    Nope. level 10 gun towers can be sniped by buggies. And there goes the only reliable anti-air defense.(Hercs are reliable too but can baited)

    So now that there has been a massive change to ranges, we can rule out what everyone has been doing. i.e. Sniping. It's now harder, more time consuming to build razorbacks over buggies (even to have them upgraded in the first place).

    So 1. Overlapping towers. Still correct, and now perhaps quite useful.
    2. Protect your Power Plants is incorrect, based upon the update from a week ago.
    3. Spend your resources to become less of a target is partially correct - some people will attack for the sake of it.

    In addition to that I don't think there's a valid (current) strategy around how you spread units out through your base vs clumping them. I think it depends on how upgraded those unit types are, how they compliment each other, etc. And what mode is set for each of the unit types.

    A good defense is still not possible, I don't think. I can churn out more units and keep attacking. You aren't churning out more units while you're defending. Your mines I've tripped aren't rebuilding. Your turrets aren't rebuilding once I knock them down. If I get more than 100k/100k of resources, I win. So I win :)
