So in theory I'm safe, because dreadnaughts would be to week to actualy do damage with the extra 2000k cargo hold.

I think the point being missed here isn't that people get res taken, cause lets face it, at level ranges where blitz fleets are even an issue res is easy to get back. Even a full FF load of res from a base can be replaced by hitting 10 8's, which at high levels is a joke. Hell, for some setups you will have your res back before the attacker is done repairing his god **** fleet!
The issue with the blitz is TIME. Some jerkwad comes in with a blitz fleet, ignores your defenses and nukes your dock, your shipyard, your upgrades etc. Hell, I prefer to get looted over losing time on my incredibly and stupidly bottlenecked shipyard. My base is even set up so that I encourage looting over hitting my dock and shipyard, cause hell, res means **** all.
The point is, that if there is a strategy that allows you to simply bypass most defenses then defenses in the conventional sense become useless. may as well scrap them. and that goes against the balance that needs to exist in the game.
If rocket towers can essentially "blanket" a channel with murderous fire to seriously hamper a rush fleet then it might be a great addition.(flaks/bombards)?
